I recently spent a week in London staying at The President Hotel, Russell Square and it represented very good value for money, the location is excellent, Russell Square tube is less than five minutes , buses run directly from Russell Square and are every few minutes and a walk from the hotel into Covent Garden took around 20 minutes. The rooms were clean and comfortable although the walls are quite thin, on our first night we had a three course complimentary carvery meal which was very nice. The hotel allows you to use the facilities of its sister hotel The Imperial and we made very good use of the Night and Day Bar which is open every night until 1am and was one of the few places to get a good pint of John Smiths, they also have an extensive menu with every meal under £10 and the service is excellent and the food served in generous portions from friendly staff. My only complaint about The President Hotel is the breakfast was very poor mass catering on a help yourself basis but the food was always cold and not very good at all, some days there wasn't even fresh orange juice just orange squash and no continental breakfast is offered, that said the location is very central and it offers good value for money and I would gladly stay here again but go elsewhere for breakfast.

The staff were very helpful and friendly and the hotel has a nice atmosphere; it somehow manages to have the feel of a much smaller hotel. Our twin room was at the front of the hotel and a good size. The beds were very comfortable and although a little dated the room was very pleasant.
The breakfast is continental and cooked, with a good selection, the tea, however had the consistency of treacle and tasted awful. But if this is the only complaint that's not bad going!
The hotel is ideally situated for the tube and there are lots of bars and restaurants nearby.
I've stayed at the President's sister hotel the National several times but have to say I much preferred the President.

Find it hard to know where to start with this hotel - the room was quite clean - not immaculate but o.k. No frills like shampoo or hair dryer (obtainable from housekeeper £10 deposit). The staff had taken lessons in being surly and rude - so bad, you had to laugh. The breakfast was quite probably the worst we had ever had, cold, greasy, everything just hanging around (even when we got in very early) The whole place was sad and shabby.

Best to start from the beginning, when u first arrive at the hotel and look at it from the outside my first thoughts were 'oh my god' - the hotel is very dated from the outside and could do with brightening up. when you enter the main reception it's very nice and presentable, as is most of downstairs including the bar. the staff were friendly, handed us a key and then left us too it, they never told us how to get to our room we had to just guess. we went up the elevator and when the doors opened it was like we had stepped out into the hotel from the original shining movie, very very dated. the corridor stunk of smoke. we entered our room and cannot complain it was clean and tidy just very average and basic. The shower was clearly from the 50's and the shower curtain looked disgusting - again probably from the 50's but can't complain though it was a nice hot shower. there was no double glazing so room got quite cold on a night time and there were just 2 sheets with a old blanket on the bed.
breakfast was always amazing cannot complain at all the food was my cup of tea. It was an English breakfast buffet and very nice indeed.
It was central to all the attractions and very close to the tube. would recommend getting an Oyster card for travel.
all in all I would say the downstairs area open to the public were lovely however the budget was clearly cut for the bedrooms, corridors and exterior.
Would I stay here again? never say never it wasn't bad but do not think worth £111 per night at all! I'd say if you are looking for a base and literally leave your hotel in morning and return on a night then not bad but if you want a bit more class and style this is deff not for you.

We used this place for a short break, mid week.
The decor in the rooms is bland and a bit dated. The level of cleanliness in the bathrooms was a little substandard, not dirty, but showed lack of attention to detail.
Breakfast was ok but again lacked the detail touches.
The room was adequate but noisy from traffic noise.

Just returned from a romantic break to London with my wonderful boyfriend. Hotel was lovely, rooms are small and basic but clean and comfortable, clean sheets & towels both days. Our first night included a 3 course meal which was lovely. Breakfasts were continental style and only downside was if you wanted a full english breakfast you had to pay £5 for it !!. Staff were friendly and helpful and on day of departure you were able to leave cases (50p a case) in a locked room until you were ready to leave for the station. Location was perfect, only a short walk from Oxford Street and most other attractions. Definitely recommend this hotel and will be coming back.
