“Great location... but!”

Having stayed in other Mandarin Orientals in my time, to be honest this was a little disappointing, bearing in mind the star rating. to start with the positives, the staff were all very welcoming and courteous. nice sized room, great bar, fantastic location for central London. BUT. the furniture was a little knocked and tired looking, there also wasn't any communal lounge area to talk about, so if your meeting people there really isn't anywhere unless you go to the bar, which is noisy. Another bug bear of mine is that you have to pay for the use of the internet, which in this day and age is absurd; it seems the larger hotels feel that they have the right to charge for this service, where as in smaller hotels its free,

Dear SR, firstly, what a great pleasure it was to have you stay with us at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London recently and thank you for taking the time to post a review on Tripadvisor. We were thrilled to read that you enjoyed our world famous Mandarin Oriental service, great bar and fabulous location so much during your trip. With that said, however, we were most disappointed to learn that you were not entirely satisfied with every aspect of your experience, primarily as a result of our room product. Service excellence is the pillar on which we build upon, and our aim is to consistently provide this to all our guests, so I am therefore disappointed the product let us down this time. Your feedback on the accommodation has been well noted and been shared with the relevant departments. The hotel continues to invest behind its’ product including new food and beverage offerings, pool and wellbeing facilities and is in the process of finalising a rooms renovation plan in the near future. In response to your comment regarding the bar, we are excited to inform you that a new Tea and Champagne Bar / public lounge will be opening in 2014. Situated next to our reception, the Lounge will offer a relaxing area for our guests to meet and enjoy refreshments.

On behalf of everyone here at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, we would love the opportunity to have you stay with us again to demonstrate that this was an isolated incident and highlight that not all of our accommodation is of the standard you experienced. If you would allow us to, I would like to personally take care of your next reservation and ensure you are well look after and thereby restore your faith in Mandarin Oriental.

Firstly it has to be 5 stars for this phenomenal hotel. It is a gem, super building, lovely room, excellent service, tendency to go above and beyond at every opportunity. Beautiful attention to detail. Only one small grumble. We had a package for 2 people which Included our breakfasts, but not breakfast for the 3rd member of our party - our 8 year old daughter. So £34 was added to the bill for her breakfast which seemed a bit steep as she had 4 rashers of bacon, a muffin and a bread roll! I happily paid as the whole experience had been grand but I did think - wow that's about £6 per rasher!!

Staying here for a wedding in the hotel, room small but luxurious. Staff excellent and very willing to help. Food delicious in the Boulud restaurant also at the wedding. Altogether a very comfortable stay although expensive.

I stayed at the Mandarin Orintal Hyde Park with the family for two nights. It's probably the most luxurious hotel I've ever been to. We choose the "Stay with me, shop with me" package, which turned out to be a good deal. As great and as luxurious the hotel is, we were not satisfied with the service provided at the hotels bar. Staff was surprisingly slow, unfriedly and - I'm sorry to say - snobbish, which is definitely not what I expected from a Mandarin Oriental.

We have stayed in various Mandarins throughout the world and this has got to be the worst. Though an impressive looking building from the outside and impressive foyer and bar the rooms are so poor we asked to see others as the room was so poor we we're ready to walk out and book into the Barclay opposite. Carpets were stained and rucked up, the bathroom had seen better days as the bath looked as if it had been re enameld many times over. There were cracks across the ceilings. The smoke detector looked as if it hadn't been changed after the last fire and no matter how hard you slammed the door it wouldn't actually shut. We waited for the duty manager who at the time was getting a loud grilling from an unhappy loud American woman, couldn't blame her as her problems were similar. We would not stay here again as very poor value for money and rooms did smell odd bit like a damp antique shop.

Room Tip: If daft enough to stay you will have to pay more for room overlooking the park or listen to the Knig...

The Mandarin Oriental is a great deluxe option - right in the centre of Knightsbridge opposite Harvey Nicholls. A beautiful old hotel professionally managed by one of the best deluxe groups. Many other deluxe London grand hotels could learn from this team - staff are well trained, welcoming, and the lights are on - something I can't say about another of the "great" London hotels.

A major plus: the flagship restaurant is Dinner by Hester Blumenthal right in your hotel - an experience in itself. The meals are inventively superb - which is no surprise; and this is a great value/experience dining option where wait staff are welcoming, knowledgeable about the food preparations, and determined to make your dining pleasure an experience.

This hotel really delivers!!

IT is an experience i would pass to others!!(they have a great restaurant,in room dinning was a bit of a challenge due to i gather functions going on then you would have different chefs on!!"but always plenty of it"breakfast you really get what you pay for!! A MUST TRY!! ALSO SPA,WELL THAT IS A TREAT ON IT'S SELF!! very understanding team!just to walk in and experience the smell WOW!!REALLY i felt as though i was in Asia again!l purchased a whole different variety of candles and remedies,they have several great names in itself! i do love the Aromatherapy!We had court yard rooms interconnecting one to another!very quiet,comfortable bedding "complete luxury"sleep all you want!! the bath towels always warm plush carpets through out,the whole rooms were in itself plush!YET A TOUCH of modern flat screen tv "with all the tick tacks"and a whole variety of movies!! with decour colours that ease you into a dream of your own after any hard day from wherever!or just simple shopping! everything is at your site step out into mainstream shopping!!from the famous Harrods on to all the name brands!(the one thing during the day very busy outside the hotel,and that was not to my liking but the bell boys are right there to assist in every way!!and when you walk in,your in heaven on it's own….the charm ambience of oak marble reminds me so much of pure elegance on it's own!! They had a beautiful christmas tree,designed by Harrods,a grand fire place is somethig i adore! The housekeeping staff are on hand any time,with whatever your needs desire!"the executive housekeeper is lovely".AND DO NOT DISTURB IN THIS HOTEL IS REALLY "DO NOT DISTURB"NO ONE will disturb you NO MATTER WHAT!! Julia manager of guest relations WONDERFUL professional period!! we had a few minor challenges at the beginning she sorted it out right away!SHE IS AN ASSET TO THIS HOTEL,yet living in Asia makes her even more experienced as in service for our guests no matter what!!she made our stay even more relaxing,you could count on her anytime!! thank you Julia!!l wish you all the success in the industry… Maria duty manager also nice,checked us upstairs in our rooms!and listened to all of our requests!All the staff were lovely and helpful!! Thanks to Martin night manager who checked us out,a real gentleman!! helped with our late check out,very patient!! all the best to you too!
I would ask for anyone to try this hotel!! it is a bit of Asia in this bursting city! we will as a family! we might have more family on the next run with us!!
