First of all, the location of this hotel is just awesome. The tube station is just underneath the hotel, Hyde Park is behind the hotel, Harrods is less than 5 minutes walk away. The hotel interior and exterior bring guests back in time. Everything about the hotel (e.g. lobby, entrance, room) is old but well maintained. When I step foot into this hotel, it seems as if I just got out of a time machine. It is just magnificent.

Our room is facing the busy street. I was amazed of how often I heard sirens throughout the day. Perhaps a hospital or police station is nearby. The wooden floor panels in our room and in the corridor produce an eerie sound when someone stepped on it. Well, I guess this is the charm of staying in an old building like this.

I very like this hotel. It would be nice if the insulation is better, so the noise of the traffic won't resonate in the guest rooms facing the main road.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the park instead of the main road if you are a light sleeper.

We stayed in a suite. The suite was big and roomy. Didn't have a great view but a lot of the rooms have a beautiful view of Hyde park. Food was excellent. Staff was extremely helpful and polite. Great selection of international tv. Right across Harvey Nichols and five minute walking distance from Harrods. Central and lively location. Hip and happening hotel.

I stayed with the Mandarin with a group of friends for two weeks in August 2012. I believe this is as british as London gets. The building is an historic art piece. A castle in the midst of knights bridge. Its location is in the midst of the bustle of Brompton Road. Step outside and Burberry headquarters is a stones throw to your right. Across the intersection of Knights bridge road and Brompton (cuz you're right there) is the understated, but fabulous Sloane Street which is comparable to New York's over rated 5th ave shopping district. To the left is is Harvey Nicks. To the right is Harrods. The hotel restaurants are to die for. Even if youre not a guest at the hotel, I highly recommend securing a table at Dinner By Heston Blumenthal. Each of the dishes have been thoroughly researched to offer an authentic historical British cuisine. I ordered off the menu as is my wont, and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. The chef came to our table to ensure my order was prepared to my exact specifications. So if any member of your party has food allergies or any exotic dietary requests, this is a place you can trust. The hotel staff went out of their way to be helpful and to assist our party in making reservations, securing show tickets, and pointing us to the best of London. The rooms are magnificent with terrific views and the bedding is the best of any hotel ive stayed with. I wish only that the Mandarin would get in to consumer products so I could outfit my own bedroom in NYC with their furnishings.
In short, I love the Mandarin and will book it any time its available.

We have stayed at the MO London preferentially for years, but we had two horrible experiences in 2012 and I will never go back. The rooms have never been great, but we have always gone for the service.

On the last trip in May we encountered so many problems that I wrote to the manager who assured me it was a lapse in service and that it wouldn't happen again. (Bad service, smoking room, over- charging, the list goes on) so we decided to go back for a couple of days at Xmas.

Why so woeful, you ask?
The room we started in had couches outside our door. They were strangely arranged in the small corridor. Every time we came back to the room there were people sitting outside our door and shoes strewn everywhere up and down the hall. The women on the lounges had kettles and food. I asked the manager what was going on. He asked if they we making noise. I just said I didn't feel safe with people camped outside. Anyway when cornered it conspires that the whole floor apart from our room was constantly booked by a large middle eastern family who treat it as home and the nannies/ personal staff have to sit silently out of their way when not needed. Apparently in the access point to the only room on the floor that they didn't have!! The hotel moved us to a suite, but it was on the first floor and not my first choice. Then we got up early the next morning to use the gym, which now had a large form on the door saying it was closed due to engineering issues. We stormed to the front desk where the manager on duty argued that we had been informed that the gym was shutting. Funny, we didn't remember the conversation and as we had used the gym the day before, it was a shock! He said everyone had been informed. Nope.

The new buffet breakfast makes the restaurant loud and as another reviewer has said, any extras are hugely overpriced.

We will not be back and we have stayed at the hotel so many times and always thought of it as our London base. Just woeful now to us.

This hotel has a brilliant location.....it's stunning from the outside and the staff top notch.
Spa amazing
But at this price I expect better room quality more attention to detail and some indulgence.
The restaurants are great can not fault them. But breakfast ...included in the rate but you pay extra for a top up of juice?!?!! Given you start of with a small glass at £6 a glass it's criminal.

All childrens food additional no complimentary turn down milk 10 pounds for a small glass.

I would stay at the Dorchester every stay there I feel special as do my children.

Room Tip: Avoid coutyard even the Knightsbridge room is borderline for the rate.
