“One-of-a-kind, world class, and the real deal”
Reviewed August 11, 2014

Sotheby's Auction House sets the prices and the trends for fine art and objects around the world. It is the center of the art world and no other auction house ranks near it in importance. Yet it is also surprisingly welcoming and accessible even to tourists who have no intention of buying art. On a recent visit I enjoyed an excellent Banksy exhibit and saw a spectacular work by Damian Hirst, two of the most famous contemporary artists in the world. The guards smiled and welcomed me in graciously, and when I asked if I could take photos of the artwork, they smiled and said of course. For art-loving tourists looking for something a little different and yet quite authentic, Sotheby's is a must-see. “Afternoon Tea”
Reviewed May 6, 2014

Always try to go to Sotheby's for afternoon tea even if there isn't an auction or exhibits of interest . It is delightful , not expensive and I can't think of any better way to spend the late afternoon.

“Going, going but happily not gone!!”
Reviewed December 26, 2013 via mobile

This wonderful auction house is almost 300 years old. It specialises in fine artwork, collectable books and the like and although some of the lots are strictly the preserve of the mega rich, there is plenty to interest those on a more meagre budget. However, take care not to blink or sneeze in the wrong place, or it could cost you a fortune!!

“The Best for Last!”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

Our last day in London we visited Sotheby's to view the Impressionist and Modern art being auctioned on June 19. Anyone who has been to a special exhibit at an art gallery knows you only have a few moments in front of a piece of work with many people around it. Here you get to look as long as you like in peace at pieces which will probably not end up in a gallery, but in a living room somewhere in someone's private collection! What a joy to see works from some of the greats: Monet, Picasso, Renoir, Dali .... The National Gallery is fantastic, but this art viewing experience was really the best while in London. It's free and fun to look at the price tags! There are several rooms to waft through and if you get hungry, there is a very nice cafe.

“amusing and interesting”
Reviewed May 22, 2013

We go there everytime we are in London. You can just drop in, it's free and staff are very kind. You may have a look at what will be on auction , you may sit at the auction, or you may just sit in their cafè. Toilets are very good.
