“Every visit here is like a trip to an oasis of calm”

Flashes of Impressionism amongst a diverse range of portraiture some of which are just jaw droppingly stunning (the portrait of his friend Monet and family worth the whole visit).

Well worth seeing.

“Manet”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

We enjoyed this who's who of the late 19th century, actors and figures of the day posed in rural scenes and formal potraits. Loads of sombre beards and social scenes of the day. The famous picnic picture featured , along with Japanese influenced pictures. I will go again when not so busy.

“Constable Exhibition”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

Another crowded exhibition where you have to wait at each work for your turn to look at it. At these prices, it surely shouldn't be quite so jam-packed. Plus the courtesy and manners of the staff is unreliable. No-one was able to tell us where we could get hold of an exhibition guide (it turns out they'd sold out) so we spent 20 minutes going up and down stairs looking for one.

“Manet Exhibition - don't be put off if you haven't got tickets, we queued for 30 mins”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

Well worth going. Had seen some of the work before but much of it was new to me and it was good to see together.
The notes are very small font, and the gallery is quite full so probably worth getting the commentary. I didn't though and coped pretty well.
Some of the portraits are beautiful and it's surprising they're not better known, but I felt there was some significant work missing which I would like to have seen alongside this.

“Manet exhibition very good”
Reviewed February 23, 2013 via mobile

We went for the 10.30 slot on a Saturday & whilst it was busy, we were able to see the collection. Staff helpful & polite. Expensive for half an hour, but glad we went.
