Went especially to see portrait of Kate Middleton and was not disappointed. Was surprised by how great this museum is. It was very quiet which gave lots of time to explore the portraits. It is free admission and has portraits from various eras.

I visited the NPG with some friends, primarily to see a Man Ray exhibition. This had an admission fee, not the cheapest but if you take the time to see the rest of the exhibits, much better value. The Man Ray exhibit was good, although lighting a bit dim, making viewing some of the smaller photos hard to appreciate fully. The lighting is deliberately low of course to preserve the images.
I really enjoyed the general areas on the ground and first floors. I'll be honest in that the older portraits from 18th and 17th century not really my thing - much more interesting for me when I recognise the subject of the portrait, so the more contemporary and 20th century areas were really great.
I would definitely recommend the NPG to everyone. It's not something you need to do frequently but good to re-visit from time to time.

We visited the national portrait gallery specifically to see the Man Ray exhibition. It was well worth the visit, so much to see and the time passed quickly. You need to go several times to see everything in the gallery.

I spent the afternoon walking through the gallery from the top to the bottom. There was a lot of people there but that is to be expected in London at a free venue. I found it easy to get around and will most likely head back to see the Man Ray exhibition this week!

This is a great venue. View is amazing. Food is well presented. Loved the variety of wine. Tried the English sparkling before the meal. If you are visiting England, book in advance asking for a table with a view and you will not be disappointed.
