The National Gallery looms over the north side of Trafalgar Square and houses an immense painting collection. Art from the medieval to the impressionists, with the more modern wing housing ecclesiastical/ religious art from the Renaissance. Free entry - so one needn't feel guilty about just looking at a few rooms and then returning another time! So much to see!

How could you miss an opportunity to visit a gallery or museum for free? (Though a donation is always appreciated). The National Gallery is a must - even if you only pop into one section - whilst taking in the sights of Trafalgar Square/The Mall, etc.

Surprising how beautiful the gallery is even when the entry is free. It is fresh and modern in some parts, and quite antique but nice in other parts of the gallery.
The works of art presented are in a very good condition and can be photographed except if they is a sign. The temporary exposition are very nice too.

All of the works of art have a short but good summary next to it to present the history and inspiration they came from.

Definitely a place to visit in London !
