The spacious building makes it possible to run in and see the paintings that interests you and leave with no regret. The Frensh and Dutch masters are truly the highlight of the gallery. Go in through the entrence in Trafalgar square and turn right, that is were the good stuff is hanging. The staff is helpfull, and the leather benches are great place to give your feet a rest whilst enjoying some quiet reflection and a good painting.

The National Gallery is a very large collection of paintings and photographs covering a large span of history. We enjoyed walking through the gallery to admire the paintings on a rainy day in London. There is something there for most everyone.

Relaxing, interesting and definitely worth your time. Especially if it's a rainy day. A nice added bonus is there is no admission charge so you don't feel obligated to spend the whole day. Great Monet collection.

This was a back up choice for us to visit as were scheduled to go to Greenwich.
However it was miserable and we came here instead.
Delighted that we did.
It houses an astonishing collection of the worlds best pictures by the best artists.
There were several Van Gogh paintings and a Leonardo Da Vinci painting as well as renoirs, gainsborough;s etc.
One of the best things about it was that there were artists throughout the gallery copying the paintings on the wall and there was a class run by the gallery with a cross section of people learning to sketch and draw.
They seem to be actively promoting more art .
We spent a very happy three hours traipsing around it and the helpers in each of the galleries were genuinely helpful and informative about various questions that we had ( this is far from the case is some other galleries )
You cannot take photos of the paintings but this is to buy the book but this is reasonably priced .
If you are in London then this is worth visiting and even better it is free.

A fantastic collection of art in a lovely building. One of the great things about visiting galleries and museum in England is that they are free but with a request for donation, which I willingly give. This arrangement instils good will and saves lots of time and mucking around getting tickets etc. I could have spent days there but unfortunately only had half a day so I had to find the artworks that I really wanted to see quickly. Gallery plan was easy to follow.
