“Do not miss the Saints Alive exhibition”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

Only had half an hour to spare so called in to the National Gallery to see Michael Landy's exhibition Saints Alive. This exciting and original exhibition brings to 'life' some of the scenes in the paintings of various saints you can see around the galleries. My favourite was Doubting Thomas, and I also enjoyed spinning the wheel of St Catherine. If you don't like the verdict, just spin again! Also worth making a contribution to this wonderful establishment by dropping a donation into St Francis collection box and being rewarded with a surprise.

“A fine collection of some of the best art the world has produced”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

Wonderful spacious building featuring unbelievably beautiful paintings of extraordinary skill - some over 600 years up to 19th century. Very good cafe for those tired legs! A must - and it is free. You will need many hours - more than six to get round the whole collection. Take two days to make it manageable.

“A must for art lovers”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

I visit The national Gallery on every visit to London (2/3 times a year) just to get my art "fix".I love just being able to wander through my favourite rooms and be able to see such a wide range of priceless paintings for free.We really should be charging foreign visitors for such a privilidge!

“So much to see . . .”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

This gallery is beautifully set out and it is a pleasure to stroll around looking at their bevy of masterpieces. I was delighted to find paintings by Caravaggio hanging on the walls - my favourite painter. Their shop is full of great merchandise and shouldn't be missed.

“Great collection, well displayed”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

It is true that the National Gallery is huge and it would be overwhelming to try to see it all, but we loved it and returned for a number of visits when we were last in London. Every gallery has its own feeling and this is true of the National Gallery too. We loved the architecture and the enthusiasm around us of the visitors looking at the wonderful artworks. Perhaps it is because the gallery is free that makes people really appreciate being there, but we thought the 'vibe' in the place was great. Unlike in the Louvre, where endless lines of tourists have their photos taken in front of famous artworks, and then move off without even a momentary look at the works themselves, this gallery feels like a place where people really value the opportunity to see some great works . The National will always be on our list when we return to London. Great cafe downstairs too - a plus on any gallery visit.
