No glass cases or four foot barriers - what an intimate art experience. Recommend going in the evening as location is as gorgeous as the paintings inside. Turner collection exquisite - unfinished michelangelo pieces an unexpected find. New Van Gogh additions are sure to please!

Art Art and More Art. A massive collection of British and European art hung in a fantastic space. No way one can see it all. We spent an afternoon and viewed highlights that we chose based on guidebook and museum website recommendations tailored to afford a wide variety of art. Highlights included The Ambassadors, Hans Holbein the Younger, Sunflowers Vincent van Gogh, The Hay Wain John Constable , The Fighting Temeraire
Joseph Mallord William Turner , The Virgin of the Rocks Leonardo da Vinci, The Wilton Diptych, The Arnolfini Portrait Jan van Eyck. I could go on and on. Great central location at Trafalgar Square. Free!

The ever-changing displays can be awe-inspiring - mostly free but check first. Great location, in the hear of everything, but I'd be happier if it stayed open even late.

Very interesting! Filled with wonderful portraits from every era and all different styles. I loved reading the paragraphs beside each portrait. They were interesting and brought the people and artists to life. I recommend popping in for an hour or two.

So inspiring to look at the old masters. This time I spent a lot of time looking at paintings created in the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries. Rewarding.

You must visit the national gallery when you are next time in London. Free entry and fantastic staff. I will visit again.

Worth the visit but the kids will get bored. Check Internet for 30 must see paintings of the national gallery.

Need at least 2 hours inside
