One of our favourite things to do when we visit London is to go to the National Gallery. First time visitors need to set aside at least three hours in order to scratch the surface of this amazing place. Get a Gallery Guide from the front desk and study it to ascertain what interests you most and thereby you are able to plan your time better. Wandering aimlessly from room to room can become a little confusing, not to mention intimidating, so rather spare your energy and concentrate on the good stuff - whatever that may be to you. Audio guides are also available from the front desk, for a small fee. Otherwise entrance to the Gallery is free, although a donation is always welcome.

The shops are well laid out and very tempting, but well worth a visit. The books on the various artists shown in the gallery are many and varied and the prints, mementos, and knick knacks will keep you interested for a good while.

The restaurants and coffee shop are also good and offer something to suit everyone. I'm sure you will consider your time very well spent there.

I was last there in 2011 during their incredible exhibition on DaVinci. But the remaining collection is fantastic and culminates, for me, with the Arnolfini Portrait. Great museum.

After a week, and not that particularly interested in art, we decided on our last day to visit the National Gallery. It was very good, and the tea excellent!

You can see the masterpieces of painting from 15th century till the 20th century. You need minimum 3 hours to take a taste of its big collecion.I would prefer a larger collection of the 19th - 20th century painting.
