I only had a few hours in London at the end of a business trip but a local had recommended stopping by the gallery. Best part is that the entrance fee is free (donation) which made it totally worthwhile to stop by for a short visit. I hit the rooms that I really wanted to see and then found myself hanging around to check out a few other areas. I loved how accessible this was - easy to get to, no lines to get in, great flow through the rooms (no big crowds). I was really pleased that I made the stop and can't wait to return for a longer visit!

What a superb museum and a real privilege to see such great art.Its a shame the museum has so many people blocking the entrance with iPads asking for donations.

If you have time to kill the the National gallery is a perfect place to go, free entry, as is all museums in London, plenty of paintings to view including Monet and Van Gogh.

We try and spend a couple of hours in the National Gallery every time we come to London. It's a unique privilege to be able to wander amongst so many exquisite paintings by the great masters and see them from only a meter away. The Gallery has done an amazing job of grouping these paintings in individual rooms with a single (or couple) of themes or individual artists so you can see different themes or styles in similar paintings.

The Gallery gets crowded, so it's a good idea to get there at opening time, or shortly thereafter. We find a couple of hours is enough, before you start getting sensory overload.

Entrance is free, but we encourage everyone to leave whatever donation they can afford to help keep this marvelous resource funded ......

I've been there couple of times and there are so many things, that I feel i wont reach the end of it! It is a great place to visit and I recommend having comfy shoes. There is always staff around that you can ask for info or directions. No ticket needed, only a donation at the entrance.

Beautiful gallery in the heart of London. Worth a visit by any tourist, set in Trafalgar Square you really couldn't be any more in the heart of London.

The museum is amazing, but very big. If you are not an expert art fan, go for the highlights. There is no way one can see everything. I recommend a reasonably quick stroll through the first rooms and then a long and enjoyable visit to the "Van Gogh" and "Renoir" section. Enjoy!

More stuff than you can see in a lifetime, but you can't spend more than 2 hours. Surprises around every corner.
