Radisson Blu Edwardian Bloomsbury Street
Ranked #309 of 1,075 Hotels in London
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 5, 2013

Our first stay at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Bloomsbury Hotel in London has convinced my wife and me there will never be a need to consider another hotel when we travel to London. All of our expectations were exceeded. The spacious deluxe king room provided all the necessary amenities, as well as a superb view of Bloomsbury Street with an abundance of London taxis and double decked buses passing below. Friendly cleaning staff maintained our room to pristine condition daily. Breakfast offered choices to accommodate every taste and the dinner menu provided a decent variety of entrees, wines and luscious desserts. Everyone connected with the dining area was extremely accommodating, competent and cheerful. One waiter in particular, Alexandre (Alex), provided an exceptional balance of superior service and conversation to enhance our dining experience.

We would be remiss not to call attention to Head Concierge Gary Metcalfe and Concierge Sidane Latif for all the assistance they provided, from hailing taxis to giving information essential in getting us to where we wanted to go. Their knowledge of the hotel and the London area was most valuable. All of the front desk staff was there to serve with the greatest of enthusiasm and cordiality. Particularly, Ana Santos took extra measures to resolve a booking issue which was not the hotel's doing.

The main purpose of our trip was to see a play in the West End. In a city as large as London it is impossible to be convenient to everything, but this hotel met our needs very well. We're looking forward to our next stay.

We stayed for the weekend in March as it was my husbands birthday. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very polite girl on the reception desk called Raimonda who offered us an upgrade to a suite at a very reasonable price and as it was my husbands birthday she arranged for a bottle of wine to be delivered to our room - a wonderful touch! Location was excellent as within walking distance of many places.

The hotel itself seemed lovely, but very overpriced. We paid a lot of money for one night (£163), and knew when booking it that we'd be getting the small rooms, as it was a Saturday night of Easter weekend. Although the room in general was very nice (clean, pretty etc) , unfortunately I thought it was a lot of money for a box room. The foot of the bed was 1 foot away from the door. In the night it feLt like other guests were practically walking past my face they felt so close. Nice hotel but too expensive for the size of the room. Also, the windows overlooked nothing other than a bit of roof area with a load of pipes and stuff. Not attractive! I wouldn't stay here again at that price. For £163 I would expect a lot more from my room.

A larger-than-life-sized scarlet-painted stag reclining on white cushions in the reception area was rather startling, but the reception staff more than made up for the rather negative response to Rudolph. The check in was impressive, with water offered and very courteous staff. State of the art, secure lifts led to oddly-lit and gloomy corridors which in turn led to comfortable bedrooms. I was in quite a small double in one of the little Edwardian roof-turrets, but it didn't feel at all cramped (although it may have been rather small for two people). The bathroom was good and well stocked with good quality toiletries (I love those freebies!) and the bed and furnishings felt quite luxurious. I didn't bother with breakfast but had an excellent hot buffet lunch. This is a very comfortable hotel but with some rather unusual decor choices. Basement meeting rooms had walls clad in what I can only describe as black and silver lame fabric: I distinctly remember having a disco-dress in similar material in the 80s!
This hotel is a short taxi ride or a 20-30 minute stroll to Euston, St Pancras and King's Cross. It didn't seem to be very well served by public transport but I wasn't really there long enough to sort that out.

Today 30.3.2013 we had a meal at the Raddison Edwardian blu restaurant on Blomsbury Street, we arrived at 5.30 pm before our show and we left at 6.50pm in plenty of time to get our seats.

The Resturant is very well decorated with wonderful paintings and lowly lit at night. The atmosphere was smart and relaxed.

We were met by Sunil and given a wonderful table and guided through the menu. We advised Sunil that were needed to attend a show and he led us to the set menu.

We were not disappointed. Firstly we were offered a variety of walm bread rolls with butter and oils, then a free mini soup. This was excellent.

The wine choose was great and the service polite and efficient.

We could not have asked for more.

The meal was very well priced and of a very high quality. You could easily bring friends or perhaps a date and they would be impressed.

The toilets are worth a mention. They were exceptionally clean - well done Raddison!

In all we were very impressed by the excellent food, attentive staff who worked quietly and efficiently. We were not rushed at any stage, but we would enjoy the meal and still get to the show on time.

The final bill was a pleasent suprise, very reasonable in deed.

Many thanks to the Raddison for a great start to our evening.

check-in was straightforward, altho' I thought my booking via the Carlson website gave me free breakfast, it didn't altho' I was given a 50% discount slip [tip: I think you can get one for asking].

I was after a quiet room and first offer altho' away from the road was too near the ping of the lift - change of room happily given. Free wifi was so-so but worth having. Limited TV, and would have liked radio 3, but hey!

slept well, so no complaints there - indeed that's the whole point.

There was no one available to see people to seats at breakfast, so need for some improvement there. Service therefore dragged down to 'Average'.

Breakfast itself was so-so. Gave it a miss on the second day - plenty of good cafe breakfasts nearby.

But very helpful concierge to find good pubs nearby. And very handy for anything central London.

But boy, was this expensive ... maybe not for a Radisson in central London but ouch!

btw, I walked by the Radisson at Mercer Street and sat in their lobby to do some email - same free Wifi - and the clientele seemed a lot trendier than here at the Edwardian. Might try that one next time ...
