“Oasis of luxury & calm in central London”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

I had eaten in the restaurant at The Lowndes several years ago, and decided to repeat the experience, this time with an overnight stay in London.

You simply cant beat the location of this hotel, a short stroll away from Harrods & Harvey Nichols, situated in Belgravia village which is so stunning, leafy and quiet.

The staff here are just fabulous, and want to serve in any way they can, the front desk team are especially magnificent and so charming.

The room was a perfect size and the beds, oh my word, the beds, total heaven. As I mentioned the food here is divine, as was breakfast which kept me going until supper.

This hotel is such a find, I cant wait to return.

Room Tip: Front facing into the square if you can

Thank you very much for your positive review following your recent stay with us - it is very pleasing to know that we have been able to maintain the standards that you experienced a number of years ago. I am pleased that the hotel delivers the same level of satisfaction as the restaurant offering and we really look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel at some stage in the futrure. We recently stayed in this property for one night. The hotel, room, location, and service were all outstanding, and we felt that we received good value for money until the "Breakfast Incident". We ventured into the restaurant in the morning intending to have a nice English Breakfast. After glancing at the menu, we noticed that the price for breakfast was equivalent to $45 U.S dollars per person, which we felt was excessive, even considering London prices. We opted to skip breakfast and just have the cup of coffee that we had already been served. When we mentioned this to the waiter, he became very rude, and muttered that coffee was only offered as part of The Continental Breakfast, and we would have to pay the equivalent of 29 US dollars per coffee. We instantly got up and asked for our check. He replied that he put it on our room. We planned on bringing it up when we checked out, but I guess he thought the better of it, and charged us 12 US dollars for the 2 coffees. Unfortunately, this experience, took away from our previous great impression of the hotel.

I am pleased to read that you enjoyed a night at Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel and you felt that you received good value for the money - up until the “breakfast incident”. Whilst our breakfasts are priced competitively with other local hotels, I appreciate that this may have been more than you wanted to pay, and sincerely apologise for the clumsy way in which your situation was handled. This was obviously below our normal standards and I really appreciate you taking the time to let us know your views. I do hope that we have the opportunity to welcome you back to the hotel and thank you again for your review. Ian Richardson

The Jumeirah Lowndes is located in KNightsbridge and walking distance to all major shops. Christian Louboutin is just two doors away! Rooms are a little small and the bathroom is rather tiny. Lobby is a little dated but service staff are helpful.

A courteous welcome as one expects from Jumeirah group. Nicely decorated room, albeit quite small, but this is often the case with London hotels. Good size wardrobe, safe, desk, free wifi access, turn-down service, flat-screen tv etc and nespresso machine is a nice touch if you like coffee. Bathroom was extremely small but well equipped. Rooms at back of hotel are nice and quiet and ours had a small balcony but, unfortunately the key could not be located until the day before we left. Location of hotel is superb; away from main thoroughfares and within walking distance of Harrods, Harvey Nics, V&A etc. Lots of lovely cafes and shops on the doorstep as well as a Waitrose. Hotel staff helpful and polite. One small niggle, however, don't have breakfast as it's a ridiculous price. I only had Eggs Benedict and they were going to charge me £30. This isn't uncommon in London, but would they not be best to to charge per item rather than for the entire buffet. I'm sure they would get a lot more custom. I'd stay again though as it is a lovely little gem of a place but would have breakfast elsewhere.

Room Tip: We found rooms at the back to be very quiet.

Ok, I know it's London price's and all that but there was nothing spectacular here that warranted a separate charge of £30 per head for breakfast on top of the room rate, hence giving a Value rating of Poor. Yes, it was very nice and there was a bottle of wine from the hotel but for the money I have experienced better.. Some of the veneer shelves in the bathroom had suffered water damage and spoilt the overall finish of the interior, the bathroom was also quite compact. The room itself was a good size, the bed was large and very comfortable. A big bonus was the nespresso coffee machine. Location was good, reception area was nothing memorable, usual courteous staff..didn't go for breakfast there on principle of the price and L'eto's just around the corner serve amazing food! I have stayed at Jumeirah hotels abroad and the experience has been better I'm afraid to say.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay with us. I appreciate and thank you for your positve comments but am sorry that you did not feel that your stay represented good value for money. Our breakfast is priced competitively with other hotels but appreciate that there are other offers available in the area. I am sorry for the water damage in the bathrooms - this has been rectified immediately but we will also be carrying out a refurbishment of all the bedrooms in the first quarter of next year which I trust will add to the overall sense of value. I really appreciate your direct feedback which allows us to adjust and improve our service, and hope that we might be able to welcome you back at some stage in the future. Ian Richardson
