Owner description: One of London's most picturesque neighborhoods, this perfectly preserved Georgian village sits atop a handsome hill boasting the capital's most elegant old world promenade, a hodgepodge of cobblestone narrow streets, picturesque cottages and romantic views.

Populated by artists and intellectual European refugees in the 20c it still has a village feel about the side streets and small shops and cafes, and is a pleasant place to explore. Have coffee and a cake in Louis which has not changed in over half a century.

Enjoyable to walk around and view a quiet upmarket zone but little to see and do . If you enjoy drinking coffee and small boutique style shops this is for you ,if not like me you will just find it boring .

Hampstead Village is worth a visit, but in my view, mainly because it is the locale of Keats' house. The shops are interesting, but expensive.

Love it here. Lived off the High Street for 2 years and now live just down the hill. unusual shops, a high street to wander up and meet friends for tea or drinks or a meal.

I grew up in Hampstead and knew the village well. In those days it was a true village full of interesting local shops with owners who knew you and valued your custom. The style of the buildings and quaint streets remain unchanged but the shops! Now parades of smart over-priced multiples makes "the village" a minature Bond Street or Knightsbridge. The food offerings are just as bad; all the usual culprits and even the once great Louis' Hungarian Patisserie is now like Patisserie Valerie.

The Heath, Kenwood and some of the historic houses are all worth visiting but I wouldn't stay around in the village too long.
