We went in a group on the guided tour. This took us behind the scenes to see the back rooms, where rare books were being processed for viewing, and to a viewing gallery for the reading room. We found it all very interesting and informative. Kevin our guide, had a great sense of humour, and treated us as individuals, making the effort to draw us in to the discussions, remembering our particular interests. The two hours (apparently quite a lot longer than the usual tour) just flew by, and we then spent some time looking at the treasures and the gift shop. Entry to the library (and for use of the lockers) is free, but we paid £8/£6.50 concession for the tour. This is an impressive building, a fantastic collection and something of which we British can be proud.

I enjoyed the historic documents area immensely-much larger than I imagined it would be. I initially looked for Jane Austen, but also found the Beetles area especially interesting (lyrics on the back of Julian Lennon's 1st birthday card, etc), and there is an extensive collection of early religious books. The Magna Carta room was well arranged with good information, but we had already seen the Magna Carta at the Salisbury Cathedral Chapter Room, (which is a better copy with a fantastic display). Considering the library is free and easy to reach, it was a very enjoyable stop during our week in London.

Imagine getting to see original manuscripts just inches away from you. If you're a book nerd or a lover of history this is definitely somewhere you need to go. It's free, the food in the restaurant is delicious and it's a wonderful calm place.
We went into the Propaganda exhibition, which we had to pay for but with all the concessions they offer it really didn't cost much and was totally worth it.

You can see the Magna Carta, Shakespeare's Folio, and an extraordinary group of documents here. You only need about an hour -- 2 if you're that type. This is a great exhibit and a fantastic testimony to the greatness and longevity of the British people. No need to miss this.

I knew Magna Carta was there and dragged my husband along. There were much more though. Archieves from Beatles, Newton, Shakespere, Darwin and a lot of celebreties from history. It was a great surprise - and free.
