I visit here reg when I'm in London . It has had some really interesting exhibitions to see and there are some good galleries as well . Easy to find your way round and decent book/ gift shop . I have only used the more public areas and do agree the cafe is overpriced but all in all well worth a visit .It asks below length of visit , this varies quite depending on what exhibition you may be seeing so is difficult to judge.

I went to the British Library to do some work while I was in town for business (Sundays are impressively quiet here) and just happened to peek into one of the exhibit rooms...and there is the freakin' MAGNA CARTA!! What in the world! That was unexpected. I guess there's so much amazing old stuff in England that they just have stuff like the Magna Carta lying around the library. Epic! The gift shop had some great stuff too.

The reading rooms are brilliant. Very comfortable armchairs. Staff nice and helpful.

The restaurant Peyton and Byrne inside the British Library is useless. Very expensive and you are still hungry after your meal. I had a cheese cake which was certainly not freshly made despite the add that all is made the same day. All week the dish of the day was lamb and rice. I wonder how was the lamb the Saturday. I didn't dare to have it.

There is ann exhibit of books and historical documents that is very interesting. You cant get in to the rest of the library without registering, so I have to admit I didnt see much.

The exhibits in the Treasures Gallery are breathtaking: ancient sacred texts, illuminated medieval works and much more. Sometimes you can hardly believe these priceless objects are right before your eyes. Their temporary exhibitions can also be fascinating and are worth looking out for.
