“What a wonderful day...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2013

I was lucky enough to be invited by a friend for lunch at The Savoy and loved every single second of it. From the moment you pull up outside the hotel there is a wonderful welcoming atmosphere... from the topiary Kasper's at the end of the road, to the doormen escorting you in. I just can't describe how beautiful the building and décor is, stunning, with amazing detail everywhere you turn. We enjoyed watching the chocolatier making lovely looking goodies on our way to Kasper's restaurant. We were given a brilliant table over looking the River, and were looked after the whole time by Saed and his colleagues. No one could do enough for us, even showing us the Ballroom which just takes your breath away. I had the seafood linguine which was to die for. Fantastic hotel with amazing staff... hope to be able to go again some day. Very special.

Excellent hotel if you get the right room ( I was upgraded to personality suit) ... Beautiful lobby, nice restaurants, friendly staff, overall nice place to stay if you are on holiday as it is close to theaters and tourist attractions in London ... To get to Kensington or knightsbridge from the Savoy will take good 20 minutes by taxi ... To airport 60 minute and will cost you 90 pounds

Room Tip: High floors facing the river

No real need to review this on Tripadvsor - it is what you would expect - the best of the best with service to die for. Cocktails in the American Bar were glorious - and yes that was one for £5000! - breakfast in Kaspers was memorable. Going to have to save for a while to do this again. We had the Sunday package of a room overlooking the Thames and Dinner in either Simpsons in the Strand or Kaspers - choose Kaspers.

Room Tip: You need to be higher than the third floor to really see the Thames but great views down river Canar...

My wife and I stayed at Savoy for one night with our three year old son in April last year as I was running the London Marathon. The hotel is amazing and exactly what we had hoped for in terms of style and its central location. The room was big by London standards and the bed was one of the most comfortable we've slept in anywhere. Exactly what I needed before a big race!

On the Saturday afternoon we had afternoon tea, there is a great atmosphere in the informal restaurant and no one seemed to mind our son acting his age and getting covered in jam. Dinner was also excellent and the hotel was accommodating as we hadn't pre booked dinner but they managed to fit us in anyway. The staff really go out of their way to be helpful and really are an asset to the hotel. They even offer a car valet service which was no more expensive than I usually pay.

The one aspect of the hotel which I think is disgusting is that on arrival guests provide their card details for payment, nothing unusual here although I had prepaid, on the Monday following our Sunday departure, I discovered that nearly £3000 had been charged to my debit card! This caused me to think that during our time in London my card details must have been cloned, I then spent a significant amount of time on the phone to the bank and then the fraud department trying to work out where the money had gone. I discovered that there were numerous charges made during different parts of our stay made by the Savoy. When I later called the hotel to get an explanation I was told that it was normal practice to do this and that the money would be returned to my account, BUT incredibly there was no apology. The money was in fact returned by Thursday that week but the initial shock of discovering that money had been taken and having to spend so long with the bank finding out where the money had gone really left a bad taste.

The Savoy really is a great hotel, just don't hand over your card details on arrival.

Dear Ashley O, Thank you very much for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay at The Savoy. We are glad that overall you enjoyed your stay and were able to have a restful night’s sleep before the big race. We were disappointed to learn of your regrettable experience with regards to the credit card authorisation and we are sorry that your concerns were not addressed in a more attentive and understanding way at the time. Please rest assured that we have shared your feedback with the relevant people, so that any issues may be addressed accordingly. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and hope that a future visit to The Savoy will meet all expectations.

As you might expect The Savoy Hotel is the cream of the crop. Beautiful rooms, wonderful food and the service is second to none. The best option for that special treat. Suberbly located for the shops and theatres on The Strand.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Katherine Hepburn suite - beautiful room with books and photos of Katherine. Wonde...

The Savoy, London, has impeccable pedigree in the league table that figures world's iconic hotels. The recent £100 million refurbishment may have brought the hotel into the 21st century, but the renewal sympathetically kept the old fashioned never-to-be-repeated charm of the bygone era.

On my nephew's 26th birthday last week, we decided to give The American Bar at The Savoy a shot for post-lunch drinks. We chose this place after a bad 'no photographs in the bar here, sir' experience at The Ritz last year. What intellectual property right would a mere photograph or two have compromised?

I thought hotels were public places, which welcomed/encouraged clients to click away with their cameras. After all, there is no better free publicity than customers' positive reviews.

When we arrived at The American Bar, we were shown to a table without delay, The drinking hole, to use the vernacular, was abuzz with people animatedly chatting and sipping their drinks. The bar lived up to its reputation of not only serving the cocktails on the menu, but most other concoctions punters cared to order.

We had frozen Margaritas and Restoration Celebrations, which were spot on. And, without prompting, the staff kept replenishing the olive dishes. At around £15 per drink, the cocktails are good value for money. Throw in the central location of the establishment, the reputation of the hotel, excellent service and happy drinkers, this is a must visit place.

For us, The Ritz is out; The American Bar at The Savoy is in.

Salud.
