Owner description: Somerset House is a spectacular neo-classical building in the heart of London, sitting between the Strand and the River Thames. During summer months 55 fountains dance in the courtyard, and in winter you can skate on London's favourite ice rink. Somerset House also hosts open-air concerts and films, contemporary art, design and fashion exhibitions, family workshops and free guided tours of spaces usually hidden to visitors. The Trust's mission is to conserve and maintain Somerset House to the highest standards and to develop the site as a public space which is universally recognised as a world class visitor attraction and centre of excellence for culture and the arts.

the inner court with its water feature is a haven of tranquility in the center of this bustling city. Don't miss the Courtauld gallery with its impressive collection of impressionist artworks.

Majestic setting and building to host the El Bulli exhibition, showing how Feran Adria and his team furthered gastronomy for everyone. Really informative and inspiring. Go see it if you like food, Ferran is number one!

I am surprised that Somerset House doesn’t rate higher as a London attraction – the location is central, it can be accessed from The Strand as well as from Victoria Embankment, the courtyard is a wonderful spot on sunny days and the galleries are excellent, in particular the Courtauld Gallery collection. The shop has a wonderful range of books as well. The cafes are average, but it is very relaxing sitting on the outdoor terrace facing the Thames. We visited twice, once late on a sunny Bank holiday and again when we were out walking and decided to stop for a drink. Children were making good use of the jet fountains in the courtyard and our drink on the terrace was very relaxing. Enjoyed a lovely walk through the galleries. All in all it is a very impressive place.

Excellent central location with a wide choice of entertainment options! During the winter there is a lovely skating ring, but beware it's quite crowded! A lot of exhibitions of art and photography are always on display and there is a nice choice of coffee shops where one can rest and enjoy the scenery! During lunch hours the place gets crowded with office workers who enjoy their lunch break and it's difficult to find a seat in the coffee shop!
