The fact that I've stayed here four times should say a lot about how great this place is! As other reviewers have said...great location, safe neighborhood, excellent hosts/proprietors, and all at an amazing price for central London. I've always had a room facing the street, but have never had a problem with any traffic noise affecting my sleep. Yes the rooms are small, but it provides you with all of the functional needs. The Rees family and their employees are always ready to help you with advice whether it be with transportation tips or sightseeing. You can be sure on my next trip to London, I'll be staying at The Ridgemount.

The Ridgemount Hotel is in an excellent location. Everything in central London is within a reasonable walking distance. Several tube stations are close by, on different lines, including the Piccadilly line, which runs to Heathrow.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. The common areas and the room were clean. Breakfast was good and generous, but simple and not spectacular. If you don't want the English breakfast, there aren't many other options, but the staff will do their best to accommodate you with what they have. Don't be afraid to ask, and be creative.

The room itself was small, the bathroom very small, and both looked a bit tired, with wear-and-tear; a sticky door lock, some broken tiles in the bathroom, a missing towel rack, things like that. The bed was small too, almost too cozy for two people, but manageable.

Overall it's a basic place to sleep, clean and friendly, in an excellent location. I would stay there again.

Very close to theatreland, safe area with pubs and tube nearby.
Basically what the other reviewers say is spot on.

2nd time at this hotel. Great if you are on a budget. Single rooms are tiny. Breakfast pretty good, location great.

A friend and I stayed here for 21 nights last November and could not fault it. Great location to tube and buses that will take you to all the iconic places in London. British Museum is within walking distance and close to some fantastic places to eat - I recommend the Thai Cafe. The Ridgemount staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming - even offering to do a load of washing for a small fee (a lot less that it would cost at the local laundrette). Internet facilities were free and the guest lounge very cosy, supplying tea and coffee, along with some great reading. The bathroom is bigger than most of this typical London accommodation and water pressure was good too. I've stayed in a few places along Gower Street and this is by far the best! Excellent value for money in a fantastic location. Loved my time there and have recommended it to all. I will definitely be staying there upon my return to London in the future.

Stayed at the Ridgemount Hotel with the Hubby through Christmas and New Year's... We arrive on Christmas Eve after being delayed over 3 hrs from the States so, of course, everything was closed, but we had no issues checking in so that was a plus.

On Christmas Day we went out and about and upon returning to our room in the evening we found a card, chocolates and wine from the hotel owners/staff. Nice touch! I dont think i would have even expected that from the more expensive hotels.

Though the place is a dated, the Rees family and staff are great. We had a clean room and bathroom, fresh towels and a sit-down English breakfast everyday. It rotated between 1 egg and ham with either beans, tomato or sausage and also toast and coffee and juice. You could also get cereal in addition as well. It filled us up just about everyday before venturing out , so no complaints. A similar breakfast out would cost you 10-20pounds for 2 people.

As previous posters have mentioned, the rooms are quite small, but they serve their purpose. We had a room on the 2nd floor facing the garden so didnt really hear too much road noise. We also had an en-suite bathroom. Other posters have commented on the size of the en-suite bathrooms as well, but we didn't have any issues. One of us could be getting dresses and the other shower so no problem. Plus, there was shelving for our bathroom items.

The hotel is located a hop, skip and a jump from the British Museum. Its about a 20 min walk to Trafalgar Square... so you are close to everything. Plus, there are 2 tube stations within 5 minutes walk and a bus stop or two outside of the hotel. There were several nights we had to walk back to our hotel from various places around the city.

Overall, this hotel was a great starting point for our trip to London. We would go back.

Pros:
Great location
Great value for the area (Bloomsbury/Soho)
Breakfast included
Staff
Free coffe/tea in lounge
Free wifi in lounge
En-suite rooms available

Cons:
Rooms a bit small
Beds a bit small
A little dated/shabby

This hotel is home from home in the centre of london, it is very clean and the people are very kind. Some of the rooms without bathrooms are small but the en suite one is bigger. the hotel is exceptionally clean and the breakfasts are good for what you pay. Nice homely lounge and the owners do everything possible to make your stay pleasant
