we slept here for three nights, in a triple room not en-suite. The room had three beds and was quite large, with a basin. Basic room but very clean. There was one toilet + one shower and a toilet with a tube. All quite clean but quite small and to be shared with our 6/7 rooms...They also have availability of en-suite room, for higher rates, but if I'll come back I will pay for it. the difference is not too high. There is free internet wi-fi and also a pc in the lounge room to be used free by guests and also a library in case of need with guides of London and Great Britain. The owner are simply great, so nice people and so warm. Every moment they had a good word or a suggestion. Breakfast is served by very nice and kind waitress and is very good.

Mr. Rees is a charming, genuine hotelier. He inquired each morning as to how our stay had been and was very helpful providing information on sites and the most direct means of getting there using London's transit system.
While lacking a lift and air conditioning, the rooms were well appointed and spacious for Europe. Most important, all the rooms were clean and the beds in our room were comfortable. NO BED BUGS. We had a triple room at the front of the hotel. Don't be mistaken. It is not a North American hotel. But we were not in Toronto.
The breakfast was fantastic, free internet and free coffee were a bonus. The Ridgemount is located near the British Museum on major bus routes and most times it was possible to get the front row seat on the upper level.

Don't have any pictures to illustrate state of cleanliness. Sorry...

Room Tip: We faced out on Gower St. There was no a/c. We slept with the windows open. There was some street noise from the occassional racing car.

Since 1998 I continue to return to this gem in the Bedford Square/British Museum area of central London. The surrounding neighbourhod is a university/creative people haven and the atmosphere of the hotel is one of family operated pride and comfort.
Full English Breakfasts in the newly remodeled breakfast room are a scrumptious delight and the wait-staff charming. The Rees' are a hands on, helpful and welcoming family whose life and pride are in the very fabric of this hotel.
My highest recommendation for the Ridgemount for simple, clean and welcoming comfort at a reasonable price.

Room Tip: Single room may be a surprise to American travelers as they are not more than a bed and drawers. Rooms at rear are quieter.

My wife, son (20 years old) and I stayed at the Ridgemount Hotel for 4 nights in June 2011. The location was great, walking distance to many of the attractions. The owners and their son were spectacular! They were very friendly and accommodating. This hotel was recommended to us by a a friend and would certainly recommend it to others. The only complaint (and I assume this is typical of hotels in London) was the size of the room.

Our room was booked on short notice I admit, but upon going there found the room was literally in the bowels of the basement and here was a sink in the middle of the room, but the sewer smell coming from there was nausiating at the least. Had to go a distance to use the shared bathroom (which seemed clean) - kind of scary in the middle of the night. People did seem helpful and got us a fan to use after a couple of requests. Could/would not open the window to the 'courtyard' as it was full of building supplies, etc. The day we checked out we were told 'our' room was being demolished and would be the first ensuite that they had. I wouldn' t even pull back the covers on the bed - used a blanked that I bought and covered them and slept on top. Not much of a brekkie eater anyway so toast and coffee was o.k.with me. Most definitely would not recommend. Sorry.
