We booked through lastminute.com and didn't know where we were staying until after we had made a reservation. We were pleased before we got to the hotel. On arrival we were offered a free upgrade which was a room with a fantastic view over Green Park. The hotel has everything you could possibly want when staying in London and the location to us was perfect. We will definately stay there again.

We loved our stay at the Athenaeum. Where to start? Hmmm...we had a party of six, three adults and our three teenage children so we opted for two 1 BR apartments, joined together. While not cheap, everything about the accomodation EXCEEDED our expectations. From the kids concierge asking about our needs with regard to movies, snacks, drinks, and activities, filling our mini ibar with complimentary cokes, sprites, water, and a myriad of snacks. They even left us a kite and frisbee in case we made it to the park. In the evening milk and cookies were brought up. Everything about the service was exceptional, from the doorman, to the front desk, etc. The rooms were beautifully decorated. My mother, a London native, fell in love with the apartment and wanted it for her own. Anyways, for many, many reasons, we loved our stay at the Athenaeum and very much look forward to returning once again.

From the moment we arrived the service was excellent -our car was unloaded and then whisked away. The receptionist was friendly and helpful. We arrived early and although our room was ready that of our friends was not. It was put on priority by housekeeping. The standard rooms are quite small but beautifully equipped, clean and with all the little luxuries -free water and soft drinks from the minibar, tea and coffee making facilities, wonderful toiletries, slippers, free newspaper etc. The bed was very comfortable and there is a pillow menu if you need a particular type of pillow. Tiny bathroom but spotless and well appointed. We didn't eat at the hotel but the bar staff were efficient and friendly. Check out was efficient and 4 staff helped load the car up for a speedy return journey.
Lovely public rooms with an arty feel. The hotel is not huge and that adds to the feeling of personalised service eg the receptionist saw us looking for our friends and directed us to the garden room. We got a great rate from lastminute.com and this is also a secret hotel -we'll be back

The room was bright, stylish, spacious and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever had. Other hotels in the immediate area have more impressive foyers but the rooms in the Athenaeum are far superior.

I have to say that this is the best hotel I have stayed at by some distance, with the caveat that I haven't stayed at very many hotels in this class previously. Rooms were clean, of a good size and furnished to an extremely high standard, with a number of personal touches.

We were staying at the side of the hotel and up on the 8th floor, and while I've seen some pictures with rooms decorated in quite an old-fashioned frilly style, this was one of the modern-style ones - and the decor was excellently done, with proper wardrobes, nice chairs and desk, and mirrors everywhere. The bathroom was exceptional, with a very good shower and a bath that filled in less than a minute, as well as stylish fittings and nice toiletries based on natural ingredients.

The mattress was incredibly comfortable, but I found the duvet a little thick for me - even with the heating in the room turned down to the lowest setting via the handy bedside control panel, I was still a little too warm. I'm sure I could have rung down for a thinner duvet, but it seemed a little too much effort when I was half-asleep. I did still manage to sleep quite well.

We didn't have much need to make use of the hotel staff, but our welcome at the front desk was excellent and we were shown up to our room by a very helpful and polite young man. The information on services and facilities that was provided in the room was well-written and comprehensive, and we were pleased to see room service meals were available 24 hours a day.

The location of course is excellent and pretty much anywhere central is easy walking distance. We also found the value to be excellent as we ended up with a very good rate (getting a deluxe room for around half of the best-available rate on the hotel's website) as a short-notice deal via a well known online agency.

The only minor gripes we had is that our duvet cover was a little more worn than I would expect from a hotel of this quality (should have been checked and discarded) and that there was one small chip in the enamel of the bath - no big deal, I have worse at home.

We stayed here for one night and managed to get a really good last minute deal booking directly with the hotel and we were upgraded to a suite on arrival. This meant we had a beautiful room which was very large for London, complete with lovely large bathroom, sitting area and dressing room. The staff were the friendliest we have encountered in London from the doorman to reception staff and we would definitely look at staying in this hotel again if we could receive a competitive rate.
