We stayed here for 2 nights on a Secret Escapes deal. Hotel very kindly upgraded us to an apartment as it was our silver wedding anniversary. The apartment is on Down St, just round the corner, a quiet, pleasant location, but no view of the park. Very spacious apartment with small kitchen (2-ring hob, microwave possibly combi, washing machine! complete with cutlery, crockery, pans, toaster, coffeemaker etc). Large lounge area with dining table. Luxurious bed, fantastic power shower (although very small bathroom). Handily located for Green Park tube (M&S Simply Food next to tube station was useful). Just a few minutes walk across Green Park to Buckingham Palace. Service was excellent throughout. We arrived a little early but were upgraded and shown to our apartment immediately and they also gave us a later checkout when we requested it. On our anniversary they gave us a card and fairy cake, which was a nice gesture.
We would love to stay here again.

Room Tip: We found our apartment to be quiet and very spacious, the kitchen was useful, but no views of the pa...

I stayed here a few weeks ago as i had a theatre show booked and this hotel was the perfect distance from prince edwards theatre. I have stayed in all 3 sister hotels and this one is tiny compared to the others but really good. On arrival we checked in and waited 10mins for our room to be ready as we was early. We was greeted by all staff. When our room was ready we was taking up to our room by a member of staff who showed us where our room was, showed where things were and how to work the heating/aircon. Really felt welcomed.

I didnt experience the dinner or spa but did have a couple of drinks in the bar which was peaceful aas it quite and out of the way from reception so not everyone can look at you compared to the other 2 hotels.

Would deffo recoomend this is to friends and family for a stay.

Room Tip: Get the rooms facing the park as it is a beautiful site.

Booked on a deal via Secret Escapes - room only. Stopping just for one night to take in the England v France match at Twickenham & then a visit to the Shard following day. The hotel is modern but by no means brash. A short walk from Green Park tube and ideally situated for those who like to saunter around the capital. We walked back from The Strand, via Leicester Square and Picadilly in 30 ambling minutes.
We stopped in one of the apartment blocks immediately adjacent to the hotel. A de luxe room, super king size bed with lovely soft linen and plenty of pillows. Our deal included complimentary soft drinks and snacks. The room had a coffee machine & fridge. Modern bathroom with double size shower, copious towels and choice of shower gels etc.
The room was beautifully furnished and exceptionally clean.
Reception staff were very helpful and attentive. (Check in time was 2.00pm but we arrived at 12.00pm and they arranged to have the room prepared and raedy for 1.00pm). On checking out at 9.30am they willingly agreed to keep our luggage stored until we returned at 5.00pm. Did not have time to sample any food or the Spa.
Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: We stayed in Apartment House 4,room 120. The Apartments are on a side street away from Picadilly Roa...

My husband surprised me and booked this hotel for our wedding anniversary. Its a nice location with access to sites and transit. When we first entered the lobby we were greeted by staff that were friendly and helpful. We stayed in a deluxe double and it was really quite spacious. The staff generously put a card and dessert in the room for our arrival. We ate elsewhere but had a few drinks at the lobby bar. The service was great and they were knowledgible on all cocktails. There is a lot of great artwork in the lobby and restaurant its worth a visit even if you are not staying over night. I will definitely be back!

Children were left with grandparents and we went into town for a night away and meal at Benares (see other review). We've stayed at The Athenaeum before and can thoroughly recommend it as a wonderful 5 star Central London hotel, perfectly placed opposite Green Park with a small but very nice spa.

Service is very good generally but we were let down by being put into a tiny initial room (814) with what looked like a single bed. I called up to complain and was told by a male voice that it was a "Superior Single"...when I reminded him that we were a couple, and the check in girl had greeted us both and given us two keys, he put me on hold. A supervisor came back on to try to assure me that it was in fact a double room (!) but with a little more argument, they agreed to move us.

We ended up just two doors down at 816, a nice double room with a good bed and far more space. After this initial blip, we had a wonderful time and the duty manager checked in with us and sent up a generous gift to apologise for the mix up.

The bed is extremely comfortable, the hotel is very quiet throughout the night, and they have the very welcome touch that all soft drinks and snacks in the mini bar are free.

The spa is well worth a visit. Although small, it's got a good sauna, fantastic steam room and two very nice wooden jacuzzis, in addition to a comfy rest area and spotless changing rooms.

I'd thoroughly recommend this hotel, providing you get the right room first time.

Room Tip: Avoid room 814, it's barely bigger than a single bed and it's a tiny room. 816 is much bette...

We took a sneeky night on our own on a one week trip back to the UK from Spain to visit friends and family. We love the Athenaeum and despite not visiting for 2 years felt so at home when we arrived as we were greeted, remembered and welcomed by members of staff whom we recognised from previous visits. Our standard room was, as always, really comfortable with plenty of freebies (snacks and drinks), a really comfortable bed, free wifi, ensuite and somewhere to sit and relax. The Athenaeum is so conveniently situated for the West End, Knightsbridge and Chelsea - everything we did was within pleasant walking distance. Its not the cheapest hotel in London but you can save plenty of money on transport!

Room Tip: Check The Athenaeum's website for mid-week offers. They make this gorgeous intimate hotel very...
