We found this museum very disjointed and lacking in atmosphere, even the recreated victorian shopping street - no sounds or smells, very 'wooden'. Just think of the potential for a museum of London! The most interesting thing was the book of tributes to the victims of the 2005 bombings - hidden away in a corner!

I must confess that I had never heard of this museum until recently browsing visitor attractions in London. My wife, daughter and I booked tickets for the dissection exhibition on a recent visit to the capital. The exhibition itself was fascinating although I must admit I thought it was a little expensive. The rest of the museum is free like all the others in the city. The many exhibits tell the story of London from Roman times through to present times. We particularly enjoyed the recreation of a Victorian street and also the examples of 50's fashion. We had a very enjoyable lunch in the cafe and can heartily recommend this museum.

On Wednesday a Society I'm a member of organised a visit to this museum. A guide meet us, the lady being of Dutch with perfect English and she had an extremely good knowledge of London, a vast area was covered and a lot learnt about the city and its early development. The quality of the exhibits and labelling again was very high standard. and easy to digest.
A couple of minor things on a group 'paid' tour was the number of visitors attaching themselves to the group and there are MANY notices stating 'NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY' this rule should be enforced without excecption a warning second time shown out of the museum.
The catering seemed a little expensive though the soup was very hot and of excellent quality.
We shall be having a follow on visit in the autumn.
Thank you all for a great afternoon.
Is it possible to have the use of a wheelchair whilst visiting?

We went specifically for the exhibition. It is well laid out but much smaller and with less exhibits than you would expect for the hefty price. Many of the train companies do a 2 for 1 offer with a travel card so this combined with a reduction for the student who was with us did lead to a lower entry fee. There wasn't much time to see the rest of the museum but we did a whistle stop tour of the reconstructed Victorian street and also looked at the pre-Roman gallery. Both were well presented and very interesting.
