“Hidden gem”
Reviewed February 12, 2014

This is a lovely, free, attraction situated on Manchester Square, just behind Selfridges on Oxford Street.
Compared with the Kensington Museums and the National/ Tate galleries, this is very bijou....but the artifacts are displayed beautifully, intelligently and one can drift from room to wonderful room. In truth one could do justice to the whole building in a couple of hours....but, if you were to look closely under the covers, or have a specific interest in say porcelain or jewel boxes, you could easily spend all day there.
You don't need the stamina of a Roman legionary to walk round...it is small and intimate..personally, I love graphic art, so for me the highlights were the Gainsboroughs, Fragonard, Rembrandt and, the start of the show, Fras Hals' Laughing cavalier.

Although I have some reservations about the cafe/ restaurant (I have commented separately) its location is delightful and for a quick cuppa and cake/ snack (not a full meal!!) it is worth a visit.

I have awarded four stars as not all the rooms were open....but I'll be visiting later this year and know I will again be thrilled by this hidden gem.
