Best kept secret in London, amazing art collection set in a stunning house. Also a lovely courtyard cafe which is an oasis not far from Selfridges.

“An absolute gem - don't miss it”

Masterpieces of painting and furniture and fascinating arms & armour collections all housed in a beautiful historic house. It is truly splendid. And, amazingly, it's free! There is also a fine cafe/restaurant.

“It's free, it's good - go!”

It's in a beautiful location with plenty of cafes nearby in the heart of London. You can actually even dine inside the Wallace collection in a very fancy looking cafe. Fabulous collection of 17th century painting. Love it!

“The best free visit in London?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2013

We went to see this collection on winter's morning, thinking we could spend an hour or so there...but realised after the first room full of treasures we would need at least half the day, even longer to inspect every item. If you have even only a shallow knowledge of art and art history you will be blown away by the richness on show here - rooms crammed full of paintings many national museums would crave. There are lovely clean bathroom facilities and a cafe in the atrium - which we guessed has a good reputation as one needed to queue for a seat at lunchtime...we cannot say from experience as we did not have the time to wait. Well worth a generous donation!
