I visited The British Museum in May 2015 on a Sunday with my two daughters aged 7 and 8 as one of my daughters had studied about The Egyptians and mummies, so I thought it would be informative and fun. A place for 15 upwards. Nothing was child reader friendly more for adults. My 7 year old was bored. We trawled around the museum for about 25 long minutes and even that was too long for youngsters, when nothing is tailored for them . A total waste if a Sunday and an hour of travelling to get there.

This museum is showing its age although most exhibits are interesting some area's are quite small and claustrophobic with large groups of international tourists everywhere.

There is so much to see I'd recommend bringing a guidebook or researching the exhibits first! We did the Rick Steve's walking tour, which took us through the major sites of the Egyptian, Assyrian and Greek exhibits. Having the guidebook was great because Rick provides history on the sights that you are seeing and directs you to the most interesting and most famous attractions.
Make sure you see the Greek exhibit while you are there! The Elgin marbles were beautiful and fascinating to see. And we found this exhibit a bit less crowded than the other exhibits we saw.
A donation is suggested, but there is no one asking for them, just donation boxes placed around the museum, so you don't feel pressured to donate.
Make sure you give yourself at least 3 hours to see the museum even if you are just hitting the big attractions. There is a lot to see and the museum gets very busy! You could take a week and still not see all the whole museum.

What can be said about the greatest museum in the world? Of course much of the contents were looted by the British in the last century, but they certainly had good taste!

I really enjoyed the imaginative use of vegetarian foods, and the friendly services. Very family friendly layout, with tables at the back where families could eat their own food as well as bought food. Free water and glasses at every table.
