“So much more than the Crown Jewels”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2014

Start with the breathtaking view from a top Tower Hill. It is amazing day and night. The tower is one place that I highly recommend taking a tour rather than wandering on your own. The Yeoman Warders cram 1000 years of history in an entertaining and memorable way. (Spoiler Alert: There is a good bit of blood and gore with talk of beheadings and such so keep that in mind if that's problematic for your group). My advice is to not shortchange yourself on time here and don't just visit the Jewel House and run. I like to mill about and see things I've not noticed on previous visits. I always manage to stumble upon a friendly Yeoman who is happy to take a few minutes and share information not part of the tour. e.g. Last time I was just sitting and watching the ravens and a Yeoman asked where I was from. When I told him Pennsylvania, he showed me where William Penn once lived and told me about his imprisonment at the tower.

“Interesting, nice views of London Bridge!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2014

We came here at around midday and we received a kids booklet, badges and pencils so help us around. We followed the map and ended up at the queue to the Crown Jewels, which leaded the whole way down the avenue (we did not visit) although we did take a visit to the dungeon part, we was a small room with 3 things and a long queue. The Tower of London is worth a visit!

“History Tour - beefeater style - Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2014

Fantastic tour by Beefeater Mark who entertained as well as told us the history of the various Towers and gates. The guided tour is included in the price and well worth it.

“Great Tour Day or Night!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2014

We did a day tour that was very enjoyable. We decided not to look at the crown jewels because of long lines but the tour was great. Lots of history and be sure to get your picture taken with one of the Beefeaters. Just don't call them that. The tower makes for great photo opportunities both day and night. Lots to see and do so plan for a half day. Not cheap but the quality of the attraction makes it worthwhile. Classic London attraction and busy but plan ahead and do not miss it.

“Interesting and Pricey”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2014

We knew the Tower was on the must do list, and ended up doing it the afternoon we arrived, jet lagged in London.
The Good: The Beefeater was as much street performer as tour guide. Funny, punny, and full of gore.
Some of the displays are very good and just walking around the ramparts was cool.
There is an amazing juxtaposition between the really old tower and extremely modern buildings in the background.
The Not so Good.
Entry price is steep. 60 pounds for a family.
Rick Steves Guides says you need 2 hours. We were there in the afternoon in March. You need a minimum of 3 hours. Being there as they close the doors means you don't get value.
The tour includes a fair bit of gory descriptors, especially of beheadings - be prepared. We could have done with less talk of the executions.
We went in the afternoon and crowds were thin and access to the crown jewels easy; well the display anyway, they just would not want me getting a new stone for my wife's tiara.
