Description: The original Bombay cafes have almost all disappeared. Their faded elegance welcomed all: rich businessmen, sweaty taxi-wallas and courting couples. Fans turned slowly. Bentwood chairs were reflected in stained mirrors, next to sepia family portraits. Students had breakfast. Families dined. Lawyers read briefs. Writers found their characters. Opened early last century by Zoroastrian immigrants from Iran, there were almost four hundred cafes at their peak in the 1960s. Now, fewer than thirty remain. Their loss is much mourned by Bombayites.

“Would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for their receptionist!”
Reviewed June 15, 2014

Had a good experience, went on a Thursday evening, had less than a few minutes to wait for a table for two, just before 6pm. However if you are going after 6, do be prepared to wait upto an hour for a table as it can get very busy especially on Thursday - Sunday. Food is served fast, quick and friendly service and good tasty food, cafe style but still good. My main reason for giving 4 stars was due to the unfriendly nature of the lady who answered the telephone when I rang to make an enquiry...Diane was extremely unfriendly and had very poor telephone manners. Having spoken to her, I was so put off coming to a place like this, if it wasn't for the reputation and location of the restaurant, I probably would not have come. Dishoom should train all their staff to be friendly whether customer facing or not as it gives a very bad impression on the overall ambience.

“Atmosphere Great!”
Reviewed June 14, 2014

We tried to make reservations for this place, but that was an epic fail due to the people who visit this establishment. There were however a limited amount of tables for walk-ins in the basement area. This place is real cozy and has a nice ambiance to it. But the food adds on to its intrigue. Not too pricey either...rather inexpensive.

I guess this is all of London, but when ordering a Cider they don't give you just a glass, they give you the whole bottle! I really liked that. They have an array of cocktail selections.

This food is suppose to mimic the food you would get in Bombay India. I found the food to be quite tasteful and spicy! We had all different breads including the ROOMALI ROTI.
We also had LAMB BOTI KABAB, CHICKEN RUBY, SHEEKH KABAB, all of which was delicious! Definitely different to what I am accustomed to. The spice is different and the spiciness is different as well.

Overall this was a good place to go to after visiting one of the plays in the West End...particularly St. Martins Theatre. Great atmosphere, good food, good drinks and a friendly staff. Great Experience. Recommend Making reservations though. If not roll the dice like we did.

“Nice place, went for lunch”
Reviewed June 13, 2014

I went there for lunch and my first impression of the place when I walked in was as if I have walked into a typical Indian café, with ceiling fans and a simple décor. To give the place a Western touch the waiters are mostly Non-Indian which adds to the feel. The waiters were polite and professional. There were customers of all nationalities in the café which indicated that the food is not just to the liking of South East Asians but others too. I ordered a Lamb Biryani and a Mango and Fennel Lassi, which was served rather quickly in a closed clay pot. Out of courtesy, the waiter asked if I wanted Raita with it to which I said yes to and he brought over a bowl which was really nice of him. The taste of the Biryani was ok, I had better and worse Biryanis at other places so I would say it was average taste wise. The Mango Lassi was not as sweet or fruity as I like it, the fennels were just sprinkled on top, but it was not too bad either. I ended up with a bill of around £15 for this lunch, so if you are in the area and looking to stop by, please do so, I would not highly recommend it just yet, maybe after a few more visits, but it certainly would not disappoint you.
