Description: The original Bombay cafes have almost all disappeared. Their faded elegance welcomed all: rich businessmen, sweaty taxi-wallas and courting couples. Fans turned slowly. Bentwood chairs were reflected in stained mirrors, next to sepia family portraits. Students had breakfast. Families dined. Lawyers read briefs. Writers found their characters. Opened early last century by Zoroastrian immigrants from Iran, there were almost four hundred cafes at their peak in the 1960s. Now, fewer than thirty remain. Their loss is much mourned by Bombayites.

“So dissapointed”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2014

I read some rave reviews and went to taste the Mumbai street food. We queued for 45 mins and we so dissapointed to be given a table placed right next tot he washrooms in the lower ground area. Tiny tables, glued to each other seem to make you feel too cosy for comfort; perhaps for safety too. Food another let down - when seated, they gave us chutneys, first time i have seen three chutneys be serves with nothing to go with them- no popadums, pickled onion...nothing. The kachumar was just so poorly presented and thickly cut; samosas were bland, lamb just not tender at all. The dal and the naan were just about the only saving grace and staff were polite. Still awaiting a reply for feedback sent to hello@dishoom :(

“Best indian meal I have ever had”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2014 via mobile

I've frequented restaurants in & around the Brick Lane / East London area for over 20 years. Up until now my favourite eatery was Tayyabs and it still is for a cheap eat. But this place is the BEST indian restaurant I have ever been to. Now I'm not necessarily saying its the most authentic Indian I've had but the flavours were amazing. The cocktail bar was also fantastic. The only downsides are its not cheap and it appears that it's always very busy. We had to wait for 1 hour but that time passed quickly at the Bar.

“Great meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2014

Great Indian food and service. We ordered a little over a dozen small plates to share and they were all excellent. The tab was very reasonable relative to other places we ate. We arrived early and were able to get a table without reservations, but when we left there was a large line, so would recommend booking ahead.

“Fabulous Food!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2014

I've dined at Dishoom a number of times and have always found the food amazing. The restaurant is busy and vibrant with a great atmosphere. Check out the fab collection of photos! Staff are clearly well trained and very helpful. It's always tempting to order too much as the menu is so tempting but they'll tell you if your heading for overload! Our faves are the OKRA FRIES and CALAMARI (gorgeously spicy) as the first nibbles. CHICKEN RUBY is amazing and don't forget to add a portion of their BLACK DAAL. If your booking table then upstairs (ground floor) is better. ENJOY!
