Description: The original Bombay cafes have almost all disappeared. Their faded elegance welcomed all: rich businessmen, sweaty taxi-wallas and courting couples. Fans turned slowly. Bentwood chairs were reflected in stained mirrors, next to sepia family portraits. Students had breakfast. Families dined. Lawyers read briefs. Writers found their characters. Opened early last century by Zoroastrian immigrants from Iran, there were almost four hundred cafes at their peak in the 1960s. Now, fewer than thirty remain. Their loss is much mourned by Bombayites.

“Excellent and intense food. I loved it”

Visited in the evening, around 7.30, restaurant was full, so had to queue outside for 20mins. It was a coltish evening, and those queuing were of offered chai whilst waiting.

We were seated downstairs, and had starter, main and kulfi. All food was nicely presented, and tasted great. Sauces and flavours were more intense than I had had before, and little grease in evidence (as can be from your typical curry).

I would return, and the price was good value too

“Wonderful!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2013 via mobile

Firstly you have to try some of the signature cocktails here! Real one offs with an Indian edge to them. The decor is fab like a real Bombay cafe but the real winner is the food! Should also try their breakfast naans and chai lattes

“Mmmmmmmm”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2013

Popped in without knowing what to expect last Saturday. I was with my sister and we stuck to a vegetarian meal. It was very busy although we didn't have to wait as it was still earlyish (5.00pm) and seemed a little chaotic. They don't half cram you in!

The food was fantastic - some of the best food from India and surrounds that i have ever had - a world away from the generic curries in many restaurants. Also whatever you eat have the Black Daal- described as a signature dish on the menu - out of this world!

Not the cheapest Indian meal that I have ever had but it's central London and for the quality of the food it was great value.

“Excellent operation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2013

The food here is excellent - tasty and well presented, and reasonable value. Without drinks you can eat well for £20 a head. But what is more impressive is how well run the place is. We were told there was a 25 minute wait (which we spent at the bar with a drink and snack). The wait was 25 minutes. We were given a pager and also a waiter came to find us and take our drinks to the table. Once seated our order was taken quickly and our food arrived promptly. we were given attentive and courteous service at the bar and at table. For a fast turn round, very busy place it really is a very slick operation.

“Tops my long list of Indian Restaurants”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2013

Both my wife & I, who dined here for the first time in late September, decided we had to return with our food loving kids. This we did some weeks later when the dining experience was enhanced by the simple fact that there were more of us, meaning we could sample more plates !!

If your looking for a quiet, romantic night out with your usual tikka masala, papad & pilau rice then keep away!!! The place is heaving, noisy & packed with staff attending to your every need from a menu offering the weird and wonderful delights from Chowpatty Beach & beyond. The house black dhal is to die for, the romali rottis melt in your mouth & the ruby chicken one of a kind!

If you can, make sure there's a large group of you visiting as this will allow you to sample a greater selection from the menu.
