“One of my favourites!”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

A hidden gem just off bustling Oxford Street, Nagomi's authentic ambience and delicious food make it a must-try for just about anyone looking for a bite to eat after shopping.

Personal favourites are the tonkatsu (deep fried pork cutlet), usually crispy and just fatty enough to add variety in taste and texture. The quality of the tonkatsu can fluctuate from time to time, so a handy backup is Nagomi's tonkotsu ramen (pork and chicken soup noodles - don't get confused by the name!). The ramen in particular comes highly recommended from some of my Japanese friends and it's definitely worth a visit.

Besides that, the spicy salmon rolls are also good value and fresh. It gets a little crowded during lunchtime and service can be slightly slow, but you'll be hard pressed to find another restaurant with such good Japanese food and reasonable prices in central London!

“Authentic Japanese food”
Reviewed June 22, 2012

High quality food in a very good atmosphere. I would recommend the chicken teriyaki with rice (amazing!). We also ordered some sushi and it was really nice, specially the roll of the house.

“If you want to try the REAL Japanese food, that's the one”
Reviewed May 31, 2012

The dish I would recommend the most is the salmon teriyaki there. The food there, in general, is delicate, and the waiters/waitresses are all Japanese. You can even feel a very Japanese atmosphere - lots of Japanese students eating there very quietly. The furnitures also look more oriental and very simple. Kind of cool. The only Japanese thing they might lack is tatami :P

“Ramen is ok, but nothing to rave about”
Reviewed December 22, 2011

I went to Nagomi the first time a few years ago and visited again just yesterday at the suggestion of a friend who had just visited Tokyo briefly on business. While he was out there he got a taste of what real Japanese ramen actually is- in other words, amazing compared to the fake stuff you can easily find in wagamama and other crappy so-called ramen restaurants in London. So this review is I guess aimed at that dedicated ramen fan who now find themselves in London wishing forlornly as I do for some real authentic Japanese style noodle soup- you all know who you are.
So, as I said I was basically curious to know whether the quality of ramen at this restaurant had changed much since my last visit and with that, booked a table and went. Even though this review is based purely on the ramen experience, I have to say as an aside that the food at Nagomi is in general really pretty good. Sadly though the ramen noodle dish "tonkotsu ramen" as advertised on the menu did not live up to my somewhat high expectations. It was just "ok" for someone like me who gets all nostalgic about having amazing ramen back in Japan whenever I wanted it. So, purely for the ramen, I would say it was a 4/10 based on the very high quality of what I had experienced in Japan. Maybe a 5/10 if I was feeling generous. That's saying something though as I would rate a wagamama or one of the other ramen you can find in London as a 1 or 2/10 or lower.
Also those ramen freaks out there who are still curious to know for themselves, you should note not to expect to be able to have the ramen as an only dish -the portion size is way too small for that, so you should order some gyoza or kara-age or even some maki sushi to go with your noodle. For a pic of the actual dish see the photo that goes with this review.
