“New Years Eve River Cruise 2013 London Rose”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

I too had tickets for this cruise and I must say how fantastic it was! We arrived at the westminster pier an hour before the cruise - it did tell us on the website and on the ticket to make sure we left plenty of time to get there as it was very busy. We had a table upstairs which wasn't a problem as we didnt expect to all get a seat as most of the other cruises we looked at didn't guarantee seats and cost more than this one! The staff were lovely - all really friendly. The queue for the bar was quite large at times but as we weren't going anywhere else it wasn't a problem. Music was good, most people were up dancing but we were more interested in the scenery and fireworks having lived so close to London we had never been on a boat ride! it was brilliant to be able to see the fireworks from the top deck - we were so close! It was difficult getting back from London as the stations were closed for a while but we had preplanned our journey from the details on the website. The other review for this cruise is completely unfair in my view!

“Cheap and scenic way to get around”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

We took the river bus, part of London transport rather than an organised tour. You see all the sights which you can follow from the brochure/ leaflets but no commentary but a lot cheaper.
With an Oyster card you get a discount. We travelled from the embankment to North Greenwich which took about 40 minutes. The boats have glass roof so you get a great view.
The buses run regularly and more run when there are concerts at the O2 arena.
There is a small bar offering hot and cold drinks and light snacks and the young man was organised and friendly and helpful.
The seating is comfortable and generous so you are not cramped on top of each other.
I would definitely use this service again.

“Dixie Queen - New Years Eve”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

Dixie Queen River Cruise

Took this up as the ‘highpoint’ to a new years break arranged by Newmarket Coach Tours
The Dixie Queen is promoted as being the biggest boat trip on the Thames with food, live band and disco. Let’s take a look at what this was really like …
The boat is arranged in 2 levels, the lower deck has restricted viewing to ‘enjoy’ the view from (fireworks for instance)
The upper deck is accessed via a spiral staircase
The number of party goers exceeded the seating capacity for this ‘special’ event – to a large degree; there was standing room only for the majority of our 60+ coach party

FOOD - The evening included a buffet for which we had to queue for and the choices were either beef stew or fish pie (hardly celebration dining!) – Perhaps the organisers were trying to be typically British, I genuinely felt embarrassed for anyone not British of which there were plenty. Not what anyone would expect at a special event

LIVE BAND - The live band was pretty poor more like Butlins entertainment, even after several glasses of wine, spirits and bubbly being drunk didn’t improve

DISCO – A couple of slow numbers would have been nice but generally no problems, let myself go

The boat set off from Tower Bridge and cruised round The O2, as midnight approached the boat stopped and the view of the fireworks was 3-4 miles away (hardly any view at all)
This was very very disappointing; I would not do this again if you paid me.

“King River cruises - London Rose New Years 2013”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

Worst ever experience of our life. We started out walking to Westminster pier to find the crowds so big that it took an hour to walk to the pier ( considering we were 10 min walk from our hotel
), we were never told of this situation as we do not live in this country.. We got told the wrong directions from crowd control .... (You could type their crowd control experience on the back of a postage stamp with a jack hammer) finally just getting on the boat just before it departed, got on to find the captain very nice and met a few nice people from over seas. Not only to find the bottom half of the boat filled with a single family who drank hard and were rougher then hessian undies, and played the worst music. (DJ must have been deaf and special). To find the food come out which was nice...then the "family down stairs" hooked in to all the nice food and very little was left...( if Bear Grylls was there he would have had a fishing line over board trying to catch food) drinks were good, sparkling wine was a miss as they did not understand what it was. Fire works was worth it all. Got off board to find the city shut down, all bridges were closed and it took three hours to walk back to our hotel, it was on the edge of a full blown riot as crowds were standing on top of each other and fights all over the place. Over all it was a great view of London we should have been advised of the crowds so we could have been more organised on where we stayed. And I would never recommend getting on a cruise on NYE especially for 145 pound each.
