“Fantastic food and wonderful surroundings”
Reviewed March 11, 2014

The first thing that will strike you as you arrive is how different this restaurant is as you ring the front door bell as if you are arriving at a close friends house. The reception we received was as warm as you could hope for. The staff from start to finish were polite and met our every need. We went for the lunch menu with wines selected for us to compliment our choice of food. Wow what a experience. I love wine but the way the wines provided brought out additional flavours of the fantastic food was unbelievable. Both my partner and I were blown way. Each wine being described as it was being served and why it had been selected for our chosen courses. The food was outstanding as well and wonderfully presented. The ambience was lovely and it is far to say we will be back. Highly recommended .

“Superb return visit ”
Reviewed March 7, 2014 via mobile

Took a friend here for dinner following a conference. My second time and her first. Wonderful evening, great food, exceptional service. I've eaten in many Michelin started restaurants in London and I think this is the best. Will be returning again.

“Flawless”
Reviewed March 6, 2014

One meal was enough to re-kindle my appetite for French-style fine dining. All the elements were there - from the amuses bouches to the petits fours (and more!). Everything was a delight to the palate. While nothing we had was absolutely knockout - perhaps it is a bit too classical for that? - our six courses between two of us were all flawless. This is quite an achievement in my experience. The dish composed of three cuts of Welsh lamb (rack, loin and shoulder) celeriac and a little pan of pommes purees was a good as it has any right to be. Neither was it anywhere near as heavy as it sounds. The calories being given against all the menu items not only helps those watching their waists, it helped ensure that we ordered just the right amount so as to be satisfied but not bloated. Service was attentive - not only was the filtered water free and good it was as regularly topped up as it might have been had we gone for an expensive wine! Despite my opening remark - one meal is not enough, we will surely return.

“Sadly lacking on the service front...”
Reviewed March 3, 2014

If the service had been at the level you'd expect for a restaurant of this reputation, then the overall experience would have been more than enjoyable.

It's started out a bit rocky when after arriving for our 8pm reservation, we were apologised to because the current patrons at our table hadn't yet left. Not directly the restaurants' fault - they arrived late apparently and we were provided with a complimentary glass of Champagne and canapes. It was a little difficult to enjoy, because we had to stand, backs against the wall, in the rather narrow hallway to consume them (although a townhouse location is quirky, it means they have no seating other than the dining tables themselves). Still, once we left that behind us, we sat at our table just before 9pm looking forward to the experience ahead.

I'd like to think of myself as fairly easy going, however, despite food that was superb in all ways from preparation to presentation, the service really failed to impress. Other than the initial pouring, our water and wine were not replenished voluntarily throughout our meal once. Despite having to ask twice for more ( due to the bottles being left on a table to side of the room), and then just telling them to leave the bottle on our table, no acknowledgement of the service failure was made.

Due to our later seating, it was after 11pm before we got to the dessert menu. Sadly, we were asked to make our choices quickly because 'the kitchen would be closing soon'. We were the last but one couple, and you could hear that the staff were all waiting to tie things up and go home for the night because they put the drinks trolley away, removed the table linens and blew the candles out. Listening to the banter in the hallways, it was clear it was time to move on, so asked for the bill and made our escape.

As I visit a restaurant of this supposed calibre to be blown away by both food and service, it is such a shame to have the experience let down by shoddy, 'up themselves' service. We visited last year, so there is a chance that they have address some of these issues (I hope!), but we won't be returning to find out.

“1st Class”
Reviewed March 3, 2014

My favourite restaurant in London. I love the formal atmosphere for special occasions, the lunch is spectacularly priced and the pairing on wines by course by the sommelier faultless. All the little extras truly make lunch a real treat. Highly recommended.
