Description: Having earned a star within a year of opening Gauthier Soho, Alexis Gauthier is described by Zagat guide as "...one of the Best New French food destinations in London...". With an emphasis on vegetables in all dishes, Alexis provides a seasonal tasting menu with the best possible ingredients (British where possible) for omnivores and a vegetable option, as well as an A la Carte and lunch/pre-theatre option. All served in a chic Soho Townhouse where the staff really make you feel special. There are also five private dining rooms for parties of all sizes.

“Unexpected surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2013

I was invited with a group of colleagues and I was not expecting the "mystery" of Gauthier. You are in Soho, right in the center of London and you get to a Townhouse that looks like a private home. You ring the bell and they open the door for you and welcome you in like in a home. Inside it really is a typical London townhouse with all the rooms, smallish like in any other London townhouse. We were on the top floor (no elevator) in our own private room so we did not see any other guests around.

The food for a group of around 14 was excellent. The presentation very good and the service very attentive. I do not recall one dish in particular only that it was a "different experience" elegant and with quality and that makes you feel like if "you are in the know" just for being there.

“Wonderful dining experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2013

Went with my husband and we enjoyed the 3 course lunch menu with wine pairings. The food was divine and the sommelier and all staff extremely polite and helpful. The restaurant is in an understated yet lovely townhouse that has a very relaxed atmosphere. One of the best fine dining places I have visited.

“Marvellous restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2013

We eat out a great deal in London and this restaurant has to be among the recent stars. It is well deserving of its Michelin one star. All the elements are there and some rate two star. The service is friendly, sensitive and unobtrusive. The food is a delight and not too rich: fantastic use of ingredients without fancy sauces or foams.

Certainly in my top few restaurants of London eating over the past year.

“Very special”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2013

A thoroughly special evening. We had the tasting menu with the accompanying wine selection...lots of food and wine we would otherwise not have tried and truly memorable. This was pricey but worth it for the experience. Service was attentive but not overdone: they took note of our intolerances and made excellent substitutions. Atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. Have already recommended this to friends as somewhere special.

“Very Fine Dining”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2013

Gautier is in a secluded, understated town house in bustling Soho. You have to ring a doorbell to secure entry. Don't be put off by this unwelcoming fact, this is food heaven. The restaurant retains the layout of the former home and is therefore a little disjointed. The quietness of these small rooms will not suit those looking for a 'buzzy' atmosphere. However, if you're looking for a chef operating at the peak of his powers, delivering fresh, seasonal taste sensations this is the place for you. It is a culinary experience.

The service is first class too. Impeccable but friendly. I had one small gripe. We were led to the poorest table in the room when two other, better ones were free. I usually assert my preference when this happens but, on this occasion, I missed my opportunity. Why do restaurants do this?
We'll be back to Gauthier and, if you love fine food, I'd encourage you to go too.
