This was our first visit to the Hotel Indigo which we selected this time in preference to other hotels in the area where we have stayed before. It is one of the ICH Chain - somewhere in the middle of the Group's offerings in perceived quality. Centrally situated in the City of London, it was ideal for me doing business there.
We arrived to a warm welcome at the tiny Reception area and we had no delay in check in or moving to our room - 306. All the receptionists were super - Rhea in particular because we had more time with her than the others but they were all a great asset to the hotel.
There was no porterage offered but this is not unusual in this type of hotel. Also, there is only one guest elevator but surprisingly, this was never a problem.
The bedroom was described as Executive and was larger than normally found in the City - we also had a corner room, which I like. The floor was wood panelled rather than carpeted, which usually causes noise problems but not in the case of this hotel - the room was well soundproofed.
The bathroom was large and clean but it only had a shower - no bath. That was a definite down point for me - seemingly, none of the rooms have a bath - we asked. The toilet paper holder was a good 2 meters from the toilet - an interesting choice of placement.
The bed itself, a king sized double, was super - soft and comfortable - no problems there or with the WiFi which was fast and free or with the excellent air conditioning.
The amenities were average - a good clean ironing board and iron (a rarity these days) but only one bathrobe between two people and there was an absence of shower caps, cotton wool and cotton buds (only shampoo, conditioner and lotion). They could do better on this.
Housekeeping was excellent - the rooms were promptly and efficiently serviced by a generally friendly team.
Their restaurant, The Square Mile, was not, Im afraid up to scratch. I have reviewed it separately but dinner was poor in preparation and quality. The buffet breakfast was actually good, except for the greasy pancakes, which seemed to have been deep fried in oil. Rosa and Giusi did very well indeed in serving us but they were somewhat let down by their kitchen.
Would we stay again - yes - but on any sort of stay longer than 2 days, I need to have an hotel with a bath in the room !
