Description: Named after the people of a large Iranian province, the Gilak restaurant on Londons Holloway Road is one of the most authentic Middle Eastern dining experiences in the capital. A spacious, plainly decorated venue with little fuss or fanfare, Gilak very much concentrates on providing sumptuous food and a warm reception. The cuisine, based around the traditional dishes, produce and flavours of the Northern Iranian region of Gilan which sits on the Caspian Sea - is strong on fish and vegetarian dishes with the unusual local staple of rice served in simple, perfect style. Gilak is an affordable option for exotic, unusual dining in comfortable, friendly surroundings.

And more, the best restaurant in Archway, from Holloway road to Junction, from Hampstead to Highgate, by Kentish town, one of the best restaurant.
Especially the starters, the fish or the amazing sfran ice cream....
Good, good and good

Starters of smokey aubergine dip and yoghurty spinach were ok, but not great, salads were served dry, with flat bread. The herb and egg dish was very dry, hard and chewy, not in a pleasant way. The main dishes consisted mostly of white, tasteless chicken pieces, with an unexciting sauce and rice. The rice with little dried berries in it was ok, but generally the whole dish had no depth.
I did enjoy the riceflour pancakes and the rose and saffron ice cream.
The restaurant was completely empty, the atmosphere was as dry as the food, but to be fair, this was a monday night. The service was fine. I really wanted to like this place, but I didn't and neither did my fellow diners. £27.00 for the kind of food you get at a conference: I won't be going back.

OK food, OK crowd. Actually the menu was very authentic. The restaurant is not really suited to large groups but the staff were friendly and generally a good time was had by all.

We went to Gilak anticipating good food but our expectations were unfortunately not met. A starter of salad leaves, radish, walnut and cheese arrived undressed; the requested dressing included bottled, very synthetic tasting lemon juice. A yoghurt/ smoked aubergine starter was more interesting but poorly presented -- white dip on a white plate The accompanying flat bread was barely warm on arrival. A chicken stew with pomegranate and walnut was tender but not particularly tasty but could perhaps be considered part of an experiment with a new cuisine. The same could not be said of the accompanying rice, which, though fresh, tasted as if of inferior quality. Another diner's lamb kebab was also tender but again much was left on the plate. The mint tea lacked zing - as did the entire meal. We passed on desert. Pleasant, helpful staff but we won't go back. ( A disappointing Valentine's meal)

It was my first time eating Iranian, but having seen the reviews of this restaurant on other websites I was eager to try it out.

This modest, clean and cosy restaurant was a delight, the food from the selection of cold dips and flat bread to start, through to the mains of kebabs and stews was delicious.

The service was very good, pleasant staff that were aware when you needed to speak to them and not ignoring you.

The price was also very reasonable.

I would eat at this restaurant again, please don't see the Average rating I have given this place as a negative, I have eaten in some places that set the bar very high. I would not book here for a special occasion or to entertain a client, but I would regularly eat here, if Trip Advisor allowed it I would rate this place as GOOD.
