“Beautiful place, excellent service, good atmosphere but...poor food”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

The Summerhouse is a very nice restaurant in on the canal, with beautiful views of ducks swimming, flying and boats passing by. The waterside tables are really great for a romantic dinner. Staff is very attentive, from the reservation on the phone to the end of the dinner, and the atmosphere at the restaurant is very nice and unpretentious. Unfortunately, the food is not great as all the rest in this restaurant. We ordered the seafood plate to share as a starter, but the calamari were cold, as it have been fried for a while, the 'king prawns' looked more 'prince' than king, and the popcorn shrimp were not crispy as they should be. For the mains, I ordered fish cake, what was ok, but nothing special. My partner ordered swordfish and that was not good at all(I have tasted as well). To finish (badly), I ordered chocolate mousse that seemed more a mousse from supermarket than from a restaurant. We were wondered if the food was poor because of the bank holiday and the chef was away, or if the food is always like that. Anyway, we had a great evening there and decided that we will have another goal at The Summerhouse. This restaurant is a such nice place that we really would love to enjoy the food as well.

“Dinner with a view”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

Special occasion and not to be disappointed on our first time visit. Table booked early 6.15 pm so able to have a waterside table overlooking the canal and narrow boats and watch the Canada geese fly past !
Staff very welcoming and attentive. Good selection of cocktails . Good selection of choice on menu and a verbal "special" for that evening for a main course.
Tables set up in an attractive way . Lovely idea that serviettes resembled mini tea-towels but in a most decorative way !
Food arrived vey quickly and was presented well and tasted absolutely delicious.
Having had cocktails the service of wine was somewhat delayed and we were asked to select after the main course had arrived.
Deserts ordered (equally delicious and generous portions) and coffee which we expected to follow after the desert but which arrived at least 4-5 mins before the desert, this was disappointing. It made us think that perhaps the staff were hurrying us so that our table could be re- booked.
All food delicious and well worth a visit for a special occasion. We'll be back.

“Lovely Location and Good Food”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

This restaurant comes in to its own on a warm summer's evening when you can sit out overlooking the canal in Maida Vale.

The menu is predominately fish but there a a few alternatives for non fish eaters.

The restaurant was previously open only in the summer months but is now open all year round under the management of an excellent manager who we knew from his previous eaterie.

The food is good, but not spectacular and the staff are really friendly

The Summerhouse is the sister restaurant to an excellent pub/restaurant called The Waterway.

We will return.

“Location great, service great, price - not great”
Reviewed August 9, 2013 via mobile

Found this place whilst going for a walk along the canal. The prices looked OK, so in we went. The service was prompt and our food was delivered without a long wait, even though they were busy. We had the seafood platter with a side of rocket and sweet potatoe fries. The platter and sides were a little light on for what you pay which was disappointing given everything else was good.
