Description: The Shepherds Tavern is a handsome feature in the Shepherd Market landscape. Built in 1735 as part of the original redevelopment of the area by Edward Shepherd, after the original May Fair was moved to Bow in 1686. Edward Sheppard was an architect and property owner, the tavern was built on ground belonging to him. Formally a butter shop, the exact date of when the building converted into pub is not known. English born actress M.B.E Wendy Richard lived in the pub from 1948 to 1953, and is honoured by the Heritage Foundation.

“Great local fare”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Traditional English pub with better than average food. Though many pubs are indistinguishable from one another, this one was a cut above with decent food and service (which in London counts for something). Though the Arsenal game commanded much of the attention and service of staff, still managed to enjoy a semi relaxing evening with folks who were in much better spirits pre-match than post (unfortunately, the Gunners' lost).

“Kick back, relax and have a beer”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

A great place for a beer and conversation with locals. Stopped by on my birthday and Viktoria was kind enough to let me hoist a Stella behind the bar for a birthday picture. Very friendly staff that don't mind chatting with you when they aren't busy. Enjoyed the Tavern very much. If I lived in London this would be my daily stop after work.

“Average pub with average food and drink”
Reviewed December 13, 2012

There is a reasonable amount of staning space downstairs as well as standing room and upstairs is all seating. The food is average, fish and chips, sausage and mash. There is a selection of four or so bitters/ales but they don't seem to be particularly well kept. The staff are friendly and there are no short pints but it's strictly average and perhaps a little more expensive that it should be. Nice view of the street from the upstairs.
