Tombo is one of London’s best little Japanese culinary gems. As a delicatessen & cafe the dining is casual, but it is 100% authentic, healthy, delicious and excellent value for money. This is where you will get a taste of home-made cooking unlike what you find in most generic Japanese restaurants.

I was fortunate to stumble upon Tombo in it’s first week of opening but it took almost no time for it to become a local hit and I stop by every time I am in the neighbourhood.

Upon entering you are welcomed by a busy, friendly and professional team of staff and a counter full of all the delicious dishes on offer.

I love that the menu is simple, convenient and completely fresh. You can select a Bento box with your choice of main and side dishes; a Bowl dish such as Donburi or noodles; or a sushi box. Everything is available to eat in or to go. Rather than using white rice, they serve high quality wholemeal rice that is unlike the rough kind I buy from the supermarket.

If you are stopping for a coffee or tea break, you will be able to sample a selection of Japanese green teas and desserts such as the gooey balls of red beans known as Mochi (Daifuku) which are a personal favourite of mine.

Tombo is on my list of Top 10 Japanese dining experiences in London, I visit frequently and I recommend all to try it out.

Japanese food is healthy. Tombo is chic, this is the word, small space, but warm atmosphere. The staff are very nice, polite and handy. The food is fantastic, the prices a little expensive. Recommended for lunch, grab and go, meeting someone, but not for a date. Not buggy friendly.
My suggestion Salmon Teriyaki.

A great find just by the bus stop we got off at. Makes a change from the chain offerings.
Quite a varied but simple menu. Good value as well.

This is good quality food at reasonable prices. Nothing on the menu will scare the novice; I welcomed the selection of teas. The ambience is clean and efficient and don't expect a kaiten sushi bar. The seaweed salad and edamame means that vegetarians are not excluded from enjoying the menu offerings. A pleasant change from the many snack bars in this area.

I love this place! I stumbled upon it whilst looking for a place to dine in the busy South Kensington area on a Saturday. Whilst all the other restaurants had horrendous queues and was extremely busy, this little restaurant offered some escapism from all the hustle and bustle around. It's a small restaurant but is very cleanly and beautifully decorated - I really love the prints on the walls! The presentation of the food was well done and carefully thought out to make the simple dishes interesting and appealing. There were some very interesting teas on offer which tasted amazing. They too were presented well, in cute cups and teapots along with sand timers to tell you when the tea is ready to be poured. The food itself was delicious and great value. The visit put a smile on my face :) and I will definitely be returning in the near future
