Tombo is one of London’s best little Japanese culinary gems. As a delicatessen & cafe the dining is casual, but it is 100% authentic, healthy, delicious and excellent value for money. This is where you will get a taste of home-made cooking unlike what you find in most generic Japanese restaurants.
I was fortunate to stumble upon Tombo in it’s first week of opening but it took almost no time for it to become a local hit and I stop by every time I am in the neighbourhood.
Upon entering you are welcomed by a busy, friendly and professional team of staff and a counter full of all the delicious dishes on offer.
I love that the menu is simple, convenient and completely fresh. You can select a Bento box with your choice of main and side dishes; a Bowl dish such as Donburi or noodles; or a sushi box. Everything is available to eat in or to go. Rather than using white rice, they serve high quality wholemeal rice that is unlike the rough kind I buy from the supermarket.
If you are stopping for a coffee or tea break, you will be able to sample a selection of Japanese green teas and desserts such as the gooey balls of red beans known as Mochi (Daifuku) which are a personal favourite of mine.
Tombo is on my list of Top 10 Japanese dining experiences in London, I visit frequently and I recommend all to try it out.
