“Yumm!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2013

I am a huge fan of South Indian vegetarian food -cooking it and, of course, eating it as well! I've had a few meals at Sagar's now and have found the standard consistently high, staff friendly and helpful and value for money unbeatable for central London. On our most recent visit, him indoors enjoyed a Masala dosa presented with a theatrical flourish, and possibly the biggest dosa (pancake) I've ever seen. It proved to be of a feathery light texture and wonderfully complemented the delicious potato 'curry'' with lentils and coconut raita. I opted for a classic of 'Channa, Batura' - the chickpeas in a glorious and subtle sauce and the largest (seems to be a theme) and fluffiest Batura ever. We finished our meal with a beautifully indulgent Mysore coffee (you must try). Well worth a visit whether or not you are a vegetarian.

“Great Value Vegetarian lunches”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

Just had the vegetarian takeaway lunchbox form here. Shocked at how good it is for £3.50.

Rice, roti, salad, raita and two curries!

Working in Covent garden means I have to buy lunch out a lot. This is my favourite place so far.

“Good but hot !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

About a 3-4 minute walk from Goodge Street Tube Station. My husband had lunched at Sagar several times before with a Sri Lankan friend but it was the first time for us. Reasonable house wine £13.95 a bottle. Good quick lunch-time service. Starters for two of our party, which were a spicy Dal Soup laced with plentyful chilli and two milder Samosas with dips. Then we each had a Dosa which was ideal for lunch. I personally found mine very hot, having too much chilli for my taste, but the other three members of our group did not share this problem. Very spicy vegetarian food and the Dosas were crispy pancakes with a vegetarian filling and accompanied dips, were a new taste for me, but when I return I'll ask for less chilli !.

“Delicious Indian food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

Enjoyed a meal early June and returned with my family to introduce them to vegetarian Indian food. And then visited on my own a couple of weeks later.

Once they had got to used to the lack of the familiar Indian restaurant staples like Chicken tikka masala they explored the menu and enjoyed some new dishes and tastes. Good, attentive service delivered in a quietly confident and laidback manner without trying to push extra food or drink on the diners. I can recommed the Rasam soup which is very spicy and the hard to find masala dosa (the Mysore version is deliciously spicy). The theatre menu portions on a third visit seemed smaller than the a la carte, the service wasn't quite as attentive, and with a drink and an extra starter it didn't seem work out much cheaper than the standard menu.

A great find good and will visit again.

“Good Vegetarian Cooking near Theatres”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

Visited after going to the theatre. Was space and many other diners were from India/of Indian heritage which I took as a good sign that the food would be OK. It was - not spell-binding, but really enjoyable and at an OK price for central London. Nice staff. Good location. Veggie food - South Indian specialities. Look forward to going again.
