We have been meaning to visit this exhibition since it arrived but could only manage it during the final week. As we had left it so late we could pre-book a ticket during normal opening times. Rather than queue for up to 3 hours (a well done to the RA for warning of this on the website) we decided to book an "exclusive" the RA's words not mine Sunday evening visit at a cost of £25 each. Whilst I realise that I will never see most of the paintings again I wish that I'd used the money for something else. I did not expect to be drifting around empty galleries on my own, however, I did expect (the word exclusive hints at this) it to be less crowded than it was. If it was less crowded than normal then I am very glad indeed that I did not visit during normal hours. I found it very difficult to look at the paintings, drawings and read the captions. It was far too crowded. We actually gave up going round the rooms in numerical order at room 2 and went to the end room and viewed it in reverse. Even this was not a nice experience and we actually left after 45 minutes very disappointed indeed. Even though the exhibition is now over I think I should warn you about the crowds for future events.
