Description: The third restaurant to be opened by acclaimed chef brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin, La Chapelle has been consistently praised, winning no less than 8 top restaurant awards in its first year, including AA London Restaurant of the Year, and Tatler magazine's Restaurant of the Year. Chef Patron, Jeff Galvin, provides a menu of modern French cuisine, gaining a Michelin star in the 2011 Red Guide, just a year after the restaurant opened. There is also a menu gourmand, prix fixe lunch, early dinner menu, and Sunday Roast lunch menu. The service, under the direction of Alessandro Piombino and his team, effortlessly combines warm, friendly and attentive hospitality with a fine sense of tradition and decorum, in keeping with the grandeur of this Grade II-listed building. The restaurant is one of the few restaurants in London to hold a vertical list of Hermitage La Chapelle wines.

Went here 30th April to celebrate my birthday. Had a drink in the bar first which was very nice with the glass ceiling.
The restaurant itself is wonderful with the high ceilings and large chapel windows.
Smoked eel starter was beautifully presented and the taste excellent.
I had sirloin for my main which again was presented exquisitely and tasted superb.
i skipped the desert but my fiance had the mascapone cheesecake which she said was, yup, you guessed it, excellent and the raspberry icecream amazing.
The wine, although expensive was very good.
Service was second to none. Friendly and prompt.
The bill of £180 a little pricey but acceptable for a treat and definitely worth the money.
I will certainly return.

The building is the real star here and you may well feel like you are entering a sumptuous Art Deco inspired film set when you arrive. For a special occasion when you need the 'wow' factor, this cleverly converted church would be hard to beat. Go for a table downstairs if you can.
Theatrical and grand it may be, but fortunately the atmosphere is far from intimidating. Staff are welcoming and helpful. There is a pleasant convivial hum from surrounding tables. A birthday treat with candle was supplied at short notice and we were also provided with a helpful information sheet on the building when we inquired about it's history. Our party of 5 were allowed to linger so we had plenty of time to soak up the wonderful ambiance - a Saturday night booking kicking off at 7.15 continued leisurely until after 11.30. The food and wine were perfectly fine although perhaps a little overshadowed by the magnificence of their surroundings.

The Restaurant is situated in a former church circa five hundred meters from Liverpool Street Station. It is easy to find. On arrival the greeting from the receptionist was friendly, our bags and coats were put in the cloak room and we were taken to the small friendly bar next to the entrance, where one can have cocktails or other refreshment from the extensive drinks menu. The barman is helpful and has an entertaining style of cocktail shaking.
The restaurant area is spacious with plenty of room between the tables especially the round ones which appear to be rather large. Given the spaciousness of the restaurant it is not noisy.
The restaurant staff are efficient, friendly, helpful and professional. The style of food is English with a French influence. The quality of the food is very good with some unusual dishes such as Guinea Fowl, Mackerel or Pigeon. The crab lasagna is delicious. Wine to match each dish may be ordered by the glass which is more expensive when compared to the price of a bottle but this option adds to the enjoyment of the food. The sommelier is very knowledgeable and willing to help one match the wine to one’s chosen dish. If asked he will explain his wine choices and is not at all irritated at having to repeat the names of the more unusual varieties of wine. Without asking we were given a written list of the wines we chose. A perfect evening.

An impromptu birthday meal out, Galvin La Chapelle booked the two of us in on a wet Saturday night with little advance warning. A first visit to this branch of the Galvin group, I wanted a meal to savour - and Galvin's elevated that to a meal to remember.

The venue is a fabulous soaring 19th c, open plan, wooden beamed hall. St Botolph's hall is not a converted church as it first appears but a listed gym from a girls school that was once on the site. The space is instantly impressive and a wonderful backdrop to a great restaurant.

We chose the Menu Gormand - a 7 course taster that was bookended by two of their signature dishes (lasagne of Cornish crab & apple tarte Tatin) that were sublime. In between were a couple of dishes that pushed my companion's experience of fine dining (eel and pigeon) into new territory - exactly what I want from a taster menu in a 1 star restaurant (not so sure from my companion - a little too strong in the flavour department). Both were interesting dishes but the Tagine of Bresse pigeon was the real star of the meal for me - particularly the leg. The powerful flavours were beautifully complimented by the other elements of the dish.

After this high, the creamy blue cheese & pear chutney was a delicious way to slide back to earth. The final dish - the apple tarte Tatin brought our conversation to a halt. A simple dish perfectly executed - this was probably the best tarte Tatin I have ever eaten.

The only slight let-down was the wild garlic veloute which over-powered the lemon sole, broad beans and mushrooms. Perhaps this could be left to the diner to add or not - with an appropriate warning.

We ordered coffee and my companion let slip the purpose of the meal. A few minutes later a plate decorated with birthday greetings was delivered on which a dish containing chocolate truffles, macaroons and a candle was centred. Even the coffee was moorish. A delightful end to a fabulous evening.

Superbly attentive service throughout from the welcome at the door to our exit. Our server Kate seemed genuinely interested in ensuring we enjoyed our meal, described each course and was happy to chat for a couple of minutes. We were never rushed even though we stayed well beyond our time slot.

My companion said she thought it was probably the best meal she has ever eaten. For me it was certainly up there with the best. Expensive but good value. I will return.

The restaurant is in an old school chapel and is perhaps one of the more spectacular venues I have lunched in.
My friend and I both chose to eat off the lunchtime set menu. Three or four choices of starter and main course and a choice between two course or three course fixed price. All the dishes were beautifully cooked and presented and service was excellent. Disappointing that there was no cheese course as part of the set lunch and although we could order cheese separately it was really very expensive for a very small amount of cheese.
Excellent wine list, rather expensive as I suppose one has to expect in this type of restaurant.
