Owner description: The Courtauld Gallery is one of the finest small museums in the world. Its collection stretches from the early Renaissance into the 20th century and is particularly renowned for the unrivalled collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings. The Gallery also holds an outstanding collection of drawings and prints and fine example of sculpture and decorative arts.

The art collection is exceedingly impressive (and a good alternative to the often very busy National Gallery), including famous Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces. Art Fund members get free entry. It is situated in the delightful complex of Somerset House, which often has very interesting exhibitions in its other galleries: last week it had the Association of Illustrators Awards Exhibition, and the RIBA Forgotten Spaces Exhibition. The whole place is well worth a visit.

Located in the stunning Somerset House, this gallery is really a nice way to spend a few hours. The gallery houses an eclectic private collection of art - I really enjoyed the impressionists.

I don't like big museums. The Louvre bores me. I like them like the Courtauld. Just enough to make for a nice visit but not overwhelming. This has a really nice little collection of art, enough to get your fill, and then head over to the Wellington for a pint. A couple of very famous paintings and some nice surprises in here. And, if you are into it, the courtyard itself is a nice view also.

Although my husband and I have been to London a number of times, we'd never visited the Cortauld Gallery, which is housed in the very grand former public records office built around a large courtyard. The gallery is just the right size, and one can see the whole collection without becoming dazed and exhausted. The collection includes Medieval works, and works by Degas,Renois,Manet,Gauguin, and Van Gogh. At least on the rainy weekday morning of our visit it was not crowded.

Of the myriad things to do and places to see in London, the Courtauld is admittedly one of my favorite destinations whenever I visit this magnificent city. If memory serves, this exquisite gallery of art covering the medieval to modern impressionists, is located in in what was one of the city's first public art galleries. An hour or two of basking in the glow of some of the finest art of the past five or six centuries, while the world passes by along the Strand just outside can replenish the soul. Don't miss this one!
