We were quite impressed with the gallery and the quietness of it all. Really enjoyed taking our time and enjoying the space. Not to be missed.

“see one of the world`s great art collections - without, ( usually !)any hassle”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

One can be in a room here ,often for several minutes ,entirely on one`s own admiring paintings
which were they on show at ,say the NATIONALGallery, would be attracting scores /crowds. So astonishing is this phenomenon, that one can imagine that each of the Cezanne`s, the Manet, the Camille Pissaro, the Degas, The Monet ,etc.etc., all are in your own safe keeping.
Furthermore the rooms feel friendly- and there is a cosiness to be had just looking and reflecting.
For twenty years before I retired from `the City`, I would come to the Courtauld to unwind, say, after a ectic series of meetings, And one would leave refreshed.

Then the shop is a real tonic for anyone looking for the unusual merchandise/cardsto do with the collection.

Well done the Courtauld-- Samul Courtauld who built the collection would be proud of what has been achieved.

“Wonderful gallery”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

Visited a while back and absolutely loved the place. Small enough to mean you can happily visit for an hour or so and feel you've seen most of what's on offer, but large enough to have plenty to see. Wonderful displays and a real gem.

“A gallery of calm”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

This is one of those places you do not really want to tell anyone about because it is so special, filled with many familiar canvases presented in a way that allows you to see them 'for the first time'. As well as the glorious collection of French paintings there is a wondrous medieval room on the ground floor and temporary exhibitions at the top of the building. There is a level of tranquillity here rarely found in other London galleries and a break in the cafe is another little treat with exceptionally friendly staff. There is normally a charge for entry but you can sometimes get in for free..I am not saying when, you will have to find out that for yourself! A real treasure of the capital.

“Great little gallery.”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

Worth the visit just to see the famous Van Gogh self-portrait, and there is so much more. Somerset House is quite a treat, anyway. The cafe's outdoor seating is not to be missed, if the weather allows.
