Owner description: The Courtauld Gallery is one of the finest small museums in the world. Its collection stretches from the early Renaissance into the 20th century and is particularly renowned for the unrivalled collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings. The Gallery also holds an outstanding collection of drawings and prints and fine example of sculpture and decorative arts.

We find the smaller galleries like these a refreshing change from the big 'blockbusters'.
Here you get the opportunity to savour a few works of art and this gallery has a number of works worth taking time over.
A couple of disappointments ..........
1) The Cezanne Room was closed when we visited
2) The number of oil paintings that were glazed which combined with the lighting in the galleries produced distracting reflections when trying to view and photograph them, I'm not an expert so maybe there is a need for this of which I'm not aware so if that's the case I accept it.

Worth going to to look at Somerset House alone. Walk throgh the courtyard through the back of thebuilding for the most fantastic terrace overlooking the River. Often many free exhibitions in the galleries in the wings of the house. As A Londoner I really rate it.

A bit off the beaten track, but, so well worth it. The collection is not extensive, but there are some important works well worth seeing-as it's not the most popular gallery, it is also not overcrowded, and it provides enough space for peaceful contemplation...Go see...

The gallery is small but interesting and the cafe is a brilliant place for a coffee or lunch - it's also very good to walk through the large courtyard and sit on the terrace overlooking the Thames. A gem.
