“Wonderful, intimate, great collection, sadly not free”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

This is a great collection, chiefly of impressionist paintings, some of which will be already familiar, and others which are a joy to discover. Unlike the other great museums in London, the Courtauld can be done in less than an hour, and then one can enjoy the views of the river from the cafe. Sadly, this gallery is not free, but it worth the entrance ticket.

“Small Intriguing Space”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

This small museum just off the grand courtyard of Somerset House is worth a visit. While not equal to the larger galleries of the city, it offers a view of some lesser known works by famous Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists such as Monet, Renoir, Manet, Van Gogh and Gauguin, while including a few of their more famous paintings. The interior of the gallery is interesting in itself, being part of the former palace built in the late 18th century. There is also a pleasant little café on the Lower Ground Floor, leading onto an enclosed terrace.

“Little known place”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

It is located on the Strand side of Somerset house. It has a fantastice collection; which it lends out to other galleries. I saw some Monet's. Manet's, and Renoir's I've never seen before. Beautiful gallery and since we arrived right after it opened it was like we had a private showing. Also, they have a nice gift shop where the staff is enthusiastic about their work.

“Great collection of art in a fascinating building”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

Somerset House contains several galleries and this is one of the most interesting. It was our first visit and we were very impressed. The galleries were not too big and not too busy so was comfortable to walk around. The staircase was a work of art in itself and the lady on the ticket desk suggested we start at the top and work down. This was good advice and the stairs were very steep! Luckily there are lifts for those who need them. We didn't visit the cafe but it looked busy as we walked past.
