Owner description: The Courtauld Gallery is one of the finest small museums in the world. Its collection stretches from the early Renaissance into the 20th century and is particularly renowned for the unrivalled collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings. The Gallery also holds an outstanding collection of drawings and prints and fine example of sculpture and decorative arts.

Small but perfectly formed, you will find one of the finest collections of impressionist painting in Britain. The collection is small and accessible,as perfect for introducing children to painting style and genre as it is to the serious student. The Seurats are excellent, particularly a collection of four small sketches of the banks of the Seine. Take you children, they can learn to enjoy art here without becoming bored or confused by seeing too much at once, Then take them to the excellent and friendly cafe in the basement (where I also saw a member of staff being extremely helpful to a wheelchair bound art lover) and let them enjoy the delicious cakes. Who knows, who may be responsible for creating a lifelong interest in art and this is a good place to start.

Close to Somerset House where there is a skating rink in winter. Tour of Somerset House was extraordinary. Restaurant in the building was very good.

I love this collection of paintings. There is some variety in styles, some amazing artwork - and it is a manageable size! You can see the collection in a couple of hours and unlike many larger collctions you don't go away thinking you have missed something.

A beautiful gallery in Somerset House along the Embankment. It is the perfect size so you can see everything comfortably. It has a lovely cafe. High quality selection of paintings.
