Admittedly I haven't stayed in any other hostels in London yet, but this one is the worst after travelling in near third world countries. The staff were really really nice (Paul and John) but the facilities are pretty basic for how expensive it is. I paid for a 6 person room which is tiny and actually had 7 beds which were all full the entire stay. Only 4 lockers in the room which aren't big enough for bags. Mattress was lumpy, non fitted sheet always coming off, heating in room not working, door and floor creaked loudly every time opened and builders next door putting up scaffolding at 7am on Sat. Showers/bathrooms were okay but small, saw cleaning happening a lot which was good. The door code system for entry provided some feeling of safety. Bar/lounge area was okay and they have a fridge for your food and microwave but no food available except continental breakfast (cereal and toast for cheap price). Beware as I heard they offer rewards for good reviews online so don't get the impression they are better than all the other average hostels in this town. You get what you pay for always! Hope this helps. It was an okay stay.

Room Tip: There is a school on one side where they also built scaffolding on Saturday morning check that out first. 6 person room had 7 beds with 'emergency' top bunk full each night.

I stayed for a couple of days at the Phoenix. It's a great place for the money. Central London, super cheap, always filled with travelers and a great staff. Stay here long enough and they get to know you on a first name basis, plus they have a genuine interest in helping you have as much fun as you can while you're here in London.

Room Tip: Talk to Paul the bartender when you get here. He's a great guy and really helpful when it comes to advice about the city. if you are a group of five, see if you can book room #1. it's a 14 person dorm but it's split into two rooms. 5 beds in one and 9 in the other.

This place has a really nice lounge where to sit down and relax after travelling. The beers are only 3.10 in the bar. Showers have hot water and room was clean and cozy bed. I recommend this Hostel for all backpacker's.
