Good standard of hotel, not the most convenient location but with a complimntary shuttle service to Clapham it's well worth the visit. We got upgraded no hassle, try to get a river view if you can. Very helpful staff.

A really fantastic hotel to go and relax in. The rooms are great, a good size, with large flatscreen TV, freeview channels, movies, internet, etc. It also has a connection panel on the wall with iPod docking station and facilities to link up a laptop or games console to the TV and sound system in the roof of each room (handy thing I've never seen in a hotel before). Bathroom has a walk in shower which feels huge. Minibar and electronic safe. Bed is extremely comfy, great nights sleep. The spa is not very big but has everything you need, all free to hotel guests, except treatments, but you get 50% off all treatments as a hotel guest. The food in the Banyan restaurant attached to the hotel is amazing, the menu is a little limited but the quality makes up for it. For lunch and dinner, if you order 2 courses you get 50% off that as well which makes it the cheapest 4* meal in London. Ordered room service one night, expecting a long wait and it turned up within 15 mins and was once again great food. It really is at the top end of a 4* hotel. The staff are all very friendly, there are a couple of great guys on Spa and Reception who went above and beyond but everyone I would say was great. The hotel is situated across the Thames but within 15 min walk of Clapham Junction. The hotel provide a free shuttle service through the daytime, if you book at least 30 mins in advance but we found it easier to jump on the bus which stops right outside the hotel (number 170) and also stops right outside Clapham Junction. From Clapham Junction you can get to pretty much anywhere very easily on the newly expanded Overground network (Vauxhall, Victoria, Waterloo, Shepherds Bush are all within 15 mins). By the way all of this Bus/Overground/Underground is included with a Travelcard for Zones 1-2 which is the cheapest one so you don't have to buy expensive Travelcards. We were initially put off purely because it was quite far out of the city but once we figured out the Bus/Overground combination, we could get to anywhere within 30 minutes, and for the price, you won't find a better hotel in London. Truly amazing stay, very relaxing. We will be booking again, it wouldn't surprise me if we continue to stay there on every trip to London!!

Room Tip: If you like a view, definitely book a "view" room as ours was "city" view and li...

Stayed in december 2012. Don't be put off by the location. In fact it's really easy to use the bus and catch the tube from Victoria etc. also it's perfect for exploring batteries and also across the river in Chelsea. Taxi drivers are still unsure of the hotel but if you explain it next to the helipad they know exactly where to take you. Hotel is modern and staff that we met are polite and friendly. The rooms itself, we had a basic double and it is very small and dark. It also smelt damp and for a newish hotel seemed very worn. The lobby areas seem to be a mish mash of art and also pay as you use massage chairs....cheapens the hotel really. However I would stay here again as it is really cheap in comparison to other hotels that are more central.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, ask for a room away from the helipad.

Just had our second stay at the Rafayel and this must be the best value luxury hotel in London. Rooms are excellent, staff are extremely helpful and friendly, and the food is great (esp. with the 50% discount residents get). I'm sure some people get put off by the location but there is a regular free shuttle service to the nearby stations (a few minutes away) and we found the driver extremely helpful.

Room Tip: Thames view rooms have an amazing panoramic view - great to wake up to

We went here for one night on New Year's Eve, where we intended to relax, then to join the NYE party. I can't fault the room apart from it being right over the entrance to the hotel so we had to keep the blinds down so as not to be seen from the street! Also, I must mention the bathroom shower, where the handle came off as it was very stiff and almost impossible to turn to get the hose part of it to work. Apart from that, the room was fabulous, nice and big and spotlessly clean! The hotel itself is lovely, although in an awkward location, so you need a car, but the garage arrangements are a bit vague when you first enter - and you need to pay £15 per day!! The hotel is modern and trendy with great touches, eg, controls for lights/air con from the TV etc. That was the good! The bad: the room lighting is very dark so nearly impossible to do decent make-up for a woman. I'm sure a man must have designed these rooms! I couldn't blow dry my hair near a mirror either without searching out a socket a long way off from the bathroom. Had to plug it into the tea point, which is not really appropriate. Re staff: Some staff are a little surly and one male receptionist seemed rather smug. We'd booked to join the NYE party but were later told after booking that we could not eat the buffet there (which was the opposite from what it said on the website at the time of booking) and we could also only join the party at 11.00pm. The party turned out to be too busy and squashed and queues for the bar were 15 minutes! There was also very little health and safety applied to the rooftop where people went to view the fireworks display at midnight - and the lovely river terrace downstairs was closed much too early and had not bar open. We also could not eat at the hotel restaurant because it was fully booked, hence we were not too impressed with that and had to make other and inconvenient arrangements. We ordered food in and then had to go down to reception to collect it as they would not accompany the delivery person up. These are small things which should be standard in a so called 5 star hotel. Anyway, that aside, the only other very bad thing was that I know for a fact that I left something in the room by mistake when we left and it was not handed in to lost property. That tells me something about the integrity of the cleaning staff/hotel. The hotel staff didn't seem to care either when I rang up and I didn't receive the call back I was supposed to, after they were going to check for me, so I had to chase up myself. So, some aspects of this hotel are truly 5 star and others are closer to 2/3 star! It's a shame as this hotel could be faultless with better management of events and customer service.

Room Tip: Rooms higher up might be more private?

Stayed here at the beginning of January, stayed in one of the suites which I have to say was absolutely fantastic! Extremely spacious, beautiful big bathroom with jacuzzi, comfortable bed, big tv. The room itself was amazing, couldn't fault it what so ever. I think the food is overpriced for what it was, quite a small main meal was £18.50+ And a desert was £8.50 and it was tiny! I think the food itself is overpriced for what it is. The location isn't great, but there are bus stops and train stations nearby. Staff were friendly, checked in late, suppose to check in our room at 14:00, room wasn't ready until 14:20 I must say it was worth the wait though! Overall the best hotel I've stayed in so far!

Great room, great location with view of the river from the floor to ceiling window. Stunningly spacious room & bathroom... Huge bed, loved the ipod dock for playing own music (speakers in the bathroom too : ). Short walk to Battersea Square along the riverside path for cafes & restaurants.. Perfect for a romantic weekend away!
Excellent!
